Met some folks in alpine meadows makeing them.
Which one is that? Said they lived in truckee I think or tahoe city.

I see some guys in the wasatch doing it also.

poles aren't the thing I spend money on, usually get them at the second hand store for $15.
I certainly don't want to do any upkeep on them.

I'm a thrift store pole guy too. Grabbed some cheap pandas on gear swap and they are total chick magnets. The seem pretty durable, though I don't really do anything that would break them.

I've got a buddy that reps Blizzard/ Tecnica and he just picked up Soul Poles this year. Seems stoked on them, but I haven't heard much more on it. Sounds pretty cool I guess.

I break stuff and lean on my pole more than I should.
I like thick aluminum that only kinda bends but does not break.

There's only one thing you need to know then. Make the investment in a pair of Scott WC series 4. Generally speaking they'll outlast you.

I've got 2 pair. Bought them in 1974. Before the Chinese started to keep the good stuff for domestic use. Use them for Nordic, XCD. About 1500 days use on them. Still use them. If I was to buy some poles for alpine, I'd go cheap aluminum. And I do. $0 - $10.

Never paid for poles in my life. Worked at a ski shop so cut throw aways and mis matches to my liking, add stickers. Won my last 2 pair. What is the hype with bamboo lately, seeing a lot on Panda here.

The wc series 4 is a good pole? I picked up a pair at a thrift store in Idaho last summer and they've just sat under my bed while I've destroyed the rest of my poles this season. I've been using the same poles for years and at the end of last season I broke one and this season I lost a complete set and broke 2 others. The WC's just sat. This thread has inspired me, I just cut them down so they're not way too long I'll try them out this weekend.

Never used them myself. I usually pick up Scott Series 4 poles for cheap. But my buddy who says he typically goes through a few sets of ski poles a year has been using a pair of the Panda poles for the last two seasons. YMMV.

One of the lightest, but strongest aluminums out there. They feel heavy compared to composite, but they last forever. Swap the shitty racing baskets out for the 3.5 baskets and you'll be set no matter what the condition.

I have a pair Scott Firewalls(same shaft as the WC, with different paint/grips/baskets) that I got about 10 years ago now. Still going strong, and I haven't had to straighten them yet.
The double tapered design of the Scott poles is a great balance between strength, flex, and swing weight. They're really well balanced too.



Sorry for the thread drift. I've been looking at a pair of Soul Poles since I realized that they were real poles, and not a joke.

I still have a pair of Scott WC poles that say "Genuine World Cup Racing Pole, 1984-1985."

They're ugly and a little bent, but indestructible. I ended up swapping in composite poles this year because I got tired of the weight and I'm not that hard on gear. But if you're worried about destroying poles, get real race poles.
