Are you going to GPS the courses? You mentioned it in an earlier post, just curious to see.
When you say "the same bike", what are the limitations for changes that we can make between races? Wheelset, dropper post, tires?More fucked up than a cricket in a hubcap

kinda weird, not sure what is causing the difference in total climbing between what you noted and what came up in the GPS data.

interesting format info came out just now via email:
Stage 1 (Full Time) + Stage 2 (Full Time/2) + Stage 3 (Full Time) + Stage 4 (Full Time) = Total Time.
So the XC time (stage 2) will be divided in half, so nixing any huge gain to be done by a cross country stud or someone that chooses a wicked light bike.
I get in town wed night, preriding (fucking off on my bike) all thurs and friday morning, hit me up if anyone wants to ride.More fucked up than a cricket in a hubcap

My apologies...I like to get this info out before it gets posted so the forum followers are in the know first.
After a back and forth meeting yesterday, the majority felt that the XC times should be divided by half to keep a 10 min plus gain from being the deciding factor. We must find a happy medium with type of racing format, so lets see how it goes. I think it will work out really well....HOWEVER, I was still a fan of total time, but I can see where some of the others are coming from. So...here we are, lets give it a shot and have some fun.

No need to apologize, I think its a good idea, it keeps in the spirit of the kind of race it is and type of racer it draws. Otherwise with 1k of climbing over 9 miles it would create an opportunity for an XC type to win by a much larger lead than any other type of racer could make in any other stage. Its a nice equalizer.
I am sure you guys will be learning what does and doesn't work in what is only your first year of this type of race.

I dunno, the divide by 2 thing is kinda ghey.
I've always been under the impression that racing was getting from point A to B ASAP.
This feels like "bracket" drag racing where the winner is the closest to their guess, regardless of if they were the slowest.
If you want the race to cater to downhill riders, make it a downhill course. Otherwise, you might a well give people a bonus if they smoke a pack of butts before they start.

Somewhat race related question...
What is the easiest way to get to the pro DH course? From the top of the gondi? Or the lift? Or...? I'd love to try to my hand at it instead of just shredding Valhalla all the time (which is ridiculous fun, not trying to take anything away from it).
I remember last year following my friends and we did a lot of backtracking and walking circles. We finally ended up by the big drop by the gravel access road. It was so fun riding down that last section (even though I was on just my AM bike and it was my 2nd day of real mountain biking).
Now that I have a real DH bike too, it needs some love. And since I'm on DH bike, pedaling uphill isn't the greatest idea. So, how does one do it most efficiently?

The DH course is off the Villiage express, not the Elk Camp lifts.
XtrP, It makes sense if you think about the idea that you don't want to make any one stage that much more valuable in the amount of time that can be gained. While on a DH course or super D you can make a few minutes, but when you go to a XC stage and have 1000' of climbing, the amount of minutes that can be gained are double that of any other stage IMO. I think its that they want to have an "all mtn event", not something that can be gained or lost because of how good one person is at one discipline (xc).
Honestly if they kept the format in straight time, the XC course would probably benefit me more, as I can pedal my bike and climb my "all mtn" bike pretty well. (just talking about it cause its fun, not really defensive)
Nitro, in regards to the chainless race, i watched a few vids on youtube last night and tried to learned a few things about the trail as I have never ridden it. First I learned how to case just about every jump
then i noticed that Valhalla looks like it has some pedaling sections as well as some flat sections. Does Valhalla have enough pitch to be ridden without too much running or pushing? Or maybe those guys in the video just really suck?

Yup...I know that. I remember ending up down there.
But since they don't run that lift in the summer, is there anyway to get over there from the gondi side? Or are you better just hiking up by Village Express? Even if it takes awhile to hike, I'd be willing to put in the effort. As Rob Warner says, we gotta be working on our fitness. There are two rules to life...

Just think if the Tour de France changed their timing rules so Peter Sagan or Mark Cavendish could win the overall. Would probably make the media pretty happy.
That's actually a thought for multi day/stage enduro mtb races, you could have a couple different classifications crowned. You could have the GC (which no doubt would be won by a full rigid 29er riding plum smuggler), and the 'Awesome classification' which would be awarded to the most gnarly RAD dude on the whole mountain. Bonus points could be awarded for the coolest bike.
