Recs for a sun shade tarp?
Yo desert rats... It's that time and I'm slowly perfecting muh car campin skillz... What say you on your tarp or e-z pop ups? I thought about the Alcove and also thought about just getting a couple of Kelty poles to through up a regular tarp. How do you guys stay so cool?

For a lot more $, check out the Foxwing. Very cool design:

There is a big thread here about this.
If weight is not an issue EZ Up type canopies are tits. Get straight legs and pull pins instead of push buttons for the mechanisms.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

I like e-z pop ups but Tarps and pvc or poles work just as good and are a little bit cheaper

Pop ups are sweet because they are quick and easy, but they are less versatile. If you are pitching over uneven areas or want to block the sun the last couple of hours of the day, trad tarps work better. I've used the cheap blue versions for years, then picked up one of the kelty tarps cheap at an rei garage sale, and it's been awesome. You can pitch it to shed wind without as much wasted space as a rectangular tarp.

I have a Foxwing. It is a really great piece of kit. I go camping a lot in the Utah desert in the summer time. This awning is terrific. Keeps the sun off, and can handle rain too. Big enough that you can shelter several people under it and not get crowded.
Here's a picture of the Foxwing deployed on my 80 Series.
