RIP Earl Scruggs
Say what you want about the banjo, Earl Scruggs was The Man.
Nicely done bio here:

A quote from the above piece:
"Everyone who plays banjo, bluegrass or acoustic folk music owes a giant debt to Earl Scruggs. Without him there would be no Allison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show or Mumford and Sons. He was singularly the most important banjo player of all time.""... Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards." – Edward Abbey

If you've ever played a five string banjo, you know the Earl Scruggs three finger roll.
RIP, Earl.

RIP. What a loss! Glad I had a chance to see the magic in person a few years ago.
Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.
Metalmücil. We've been giving people pink ear since 2010

A great loss for American music. He helped carry bluegrass for 70+ years.
Playin' with Vassar and Jerry up in high.

Another eloquent tribute to ES:
http://chrispandolfi.com/?p=1115
"...somehow Earl tapped into the highest order of inspiration, creating a standard that defines not only an instrument but also an entire thriving genre of music. His style is the bedrock of everything that three-finger style banjo players will ever accomplish. I cannot think of another musician in any genre who’s influence is so universal on their chosen instrument.""...
