Drones in the sky over US skies now ok'd by the FAA....Thanks Obama.
For the most part I agree with many things that Obama signs on....but sometimes he really shows himself as a insidious douche-nozzle!!
Obama's FAA has just now given the okay for opening up the airways for the use of private and public drones over US domestic regions.
Private use such as real-estate photographery, etc...I really couldn't give fuck all about.
It's the "public" use that basically scares the bejeezus out of me.
The FAA considers 'public' use as use by FEMA, Border Protection, Fire Departments, and especially law enforcement drones. Such public agencies will be allowed to start using drones as early as this May as long as they are less than 4.4 pounds and operate less than 400 feet altitude and only in daylight. Larger drones and more extensive use will be allowed in 2015.
In fact, one of the largest lobbies lobbying the FAA for passage were various law enforcement associations.
That opens up the possibility of way more public space surveillance by police drones just a bit larger than those 4-prop drones they now sell at Brookstone that are piloted with an iPad.
Law enforcement contractors are now scrambling to fit as much surveillance equipment as they can in a 4.4 pound package.
It's now super-easy to equip drones with a littany of bio-recognition devices, and other surveillance equipment. There are also drones the size, and shape and look of hummingbirds being developed now that can easily fly around porches, etc.
There are small drones that can be used with wifi-sniffing equipment...cell phone call interceptors, etc.
What kind of weird fucking sci-fi world is this coming to??? The movie "Total Recall" comes so very much to mind.
Say good-bye to YET even MORE of our collective privacy.
Thanks alot, Obama...you two-faced scurge....not that 'Dubya' would have done anything differently!
Where is Ron Paul when we NEED HIM????

ummmm, if you see one - shoot it down.
you could try arguing that you didn't consent it to fly through your own airspace???
this is another reason why it is dumb to worry about what the constitution actually says...... jfost is really ignorant, he often just needs simple facts laid out for him...

Wouldn't work....they'll be using live-streaming video...they'll see the you first and have you already on tape before it hits the ground. Figure buckshot would do a good job on them, though. You can always claim you thought you were protecting yourself from an invading alien.

There's nothing totalitarian about me...I truly hate that shit. Actually you can probably blame yourself...for believing all that poop about security being more important than freedom. Security without freedom is totally useless. If I have to join the 'tin hats' on issues like these, I will.
Fuck...I really wish Ron Paul had a chance.
Actually, wouldn't T-shot be better than buckshot at a range of say 100 -120 feet in the air?

I think my point in other threads is that this stuff is going to go on, whether it is "authorized" by law or not. Tech is outpacing the laws and concepts like "privacy" are a little gray nowadays... if citizens banded together and pledged to shoot down any and all drones operating under the "400' daylight-only ceiling", then we'd see some results.

I'm not into guns, either really....I used to pack a Mossberg 500 short-barrrel for bear protection in the bush...but ONLY in areas known to have brownies....which is pretty much everywhere in Ak. I've lately been using just bells and commonsense instead.
There's an easier way to bring down drones, though....and it's NOT "ostensibly" illegal....they can be brought down with RF signal interrupters...even if they're using encrypted RF signaling. If they're NOT using encrypted signals, they can actually be commandeered and landed...with proper equipment. That's how the Iranians commandeered that US drone over Iran last year.
Going low-tech might work....but remember: it's always better to fight technology with like technology.

EDIT as to sling-shots....a "Wrist Rocket" is the ONLY way to go....they can launch a 1 inch ball-bearing with AMAZING force and accuracy. They'll also launch a pocket of loose heavy shot...but you'll lose much of the impact force.
Model rockets are hard to aim....but you might be able to equipment them with a fast-throughput RF signal homing device...but then it might just decide to go after the RF signal from some grandmother's cellphone....and then you'd be in serious shit!! You'd also need to equip the thing with processors interpret the RF homing data and autonomously change trajectories by way of electro-mechanical controls to adjustable fins....which would be pretty complex for 'backyard' stuff, but not impossible.
These are Wrist Rockets:

I know you're kidding about shooting them down cause there isn't a chance in hell but I can't wait till we start hearing reports of the conspiracy (chem-trail types) types shooting like madmen into the sky in the middle of huge cities - inevitably ending up in the real padded room.

Yeah - the ammo's the only shitty part. Every time I go to buy a few dozen pallets of the depleted uranium rounds they ask for my birth date - Like I'm gonna make meth out of them or something!

What's next, a world where driverless cars reign? Also, there's no reason to think surveillance drones a few years from now will be big enough to shoot down. Think flyswatter instead:

Sorry....wrong guy. I've been called a 'tin-foil hat' wearer for simply suggesting that there was something fishy about Building seven going down like that during 9-11....I think even by you.
What I believe in is the following:
I believe in PERSONAL freedom....but I don't extend that same freedom to corporations to continually fuck over the environment.
I believe that individuals should be left alone to do what they want on their OWN personal property...whether that be a homestead, house, apartment or damn Winnebago for all I care. I believe strongly that all ammendments should apply to individuals...and I would defend those individual rights....as they are really the only rights we have....and thanks to guys like you that vote-in all those freedom-hating politicians like George Bu$h and his cronies Cheney and Rove who concoct extremely injurous pieces of legislation such as the Patriot Act and then think it's all fine and fucking dandy because, afterall, it's for "national security", we barely even have those rights. It wasn't the dems that were going all lovey-dovey over the Patriot Act (yes...they signed on to it...but only because they got caught up in that stupid 9-11 bullcrap)...it was the war-hawk repubs.
Lemmee ask you something: why is it you conservatards constantly spew nonsense about freedoms and yet you TOTALLY and almost maniacally hate the American Civil Liberties Union....the ACLU???? Why in hell is that?
How can you be for individual freedom and yet be so manifestly against the ACLU? They STAND for freedom and fight for it EVERY DAY....and yet you conservatards despise them.
That just shows you how hypocritical you guys are.
The only freedoms you are for are the freedom of the large companies and the people that own them to rape the environment and pollute our skies...yet couldn't give a rip about actual individual freedoms...the kind that the ACLU believe in.
I wonder how you feel about the Massey mine disaster? Just have the gov keep out of it so they can continue to cover up unsafe conditions and kill people? Ehh...they're only dumb miner grunts...they shouldn't get in the way of our corporate profits. We'll just pay their widows a few thou and keep all practices as usual...oh yeah, we'll pay off those pesky gov inspectors when they come around too...gotta keep a few thou around for them, as well. We'll just sweep the bodies under the carpet like we always do.

Hah....cool video, Triage!
Those new 4-blade copter/drones sure super easy to fly!!!
The similar ones that Brookstone sells are nearly idiot-proof to fly. They'll actually hover easily in id-air in a room for many minutes...and you can push them away with your hand and they'll go hover somewhere else....they have self-righting software built in. I tried a few of them out at Brookstone...was absolutely amazed at how easy they are to lift off, fly, control and land. You use the acceleroeter function of an iPad...sort of like using the ipad as a wii. It's totally intuitive.
They're $300 at Brookstone and FAR easily to fly than those pain in the ass regular RC helicopters...four blades makes them a thousand times more stable.
Here's a video of them in action......it's actually the coolest thing I've ever flown!!! Oh...I forgot it has two HD webcams built right in...one facing forward, one facing down....both live-stream to the iPhone or iPad.
They use wifi to fly...so can fly around corners or you can steer them into rooms just flying by the view on the ipad!!
Remember, this thing is only $300 and already comes with the two cameras!
It's going to be a very weird world!!

Except that you have no fucking clue what or who you do support.
All I can see from your posts is you are against........... well just about everything.
As for this, fuck em.
I didn't agree to this and if (which I doubt this will ever happen) a drone is flying circles over Bozeman, I might actually put a couple of rounds out in that general direction. After all in my book, I own the airspace over my one little acre up to and including 10K ASL and if DHS wants to quibble. Fine. And if I should die of Small Pox, put my remains in my Snuffbox
