Shin Bang Nightmare
For two seasons now I have struggled with issues in my lower legs. The problem shows itself as soreness on my shins and on the lateral aspect of my lower legs. The soreness on the front aspect of my shin feels like classic shin bang. However, the cause of it seems to be a mystery. I am in the correct size boot with an orthotic and a foam injected liner. My actual foot feels awesome in my boots but the pain I get in my lower leg usually keeps me from skiing as much as I would like to. I have tried various flexes including a 130, 120 and a 110 they all yield similar pain. Has anyone had similar issues? If so were you able to find a solution? My next course of action is to start a routine in-depth stretching exercise multiple times a day. Please let me know if any one has any ideas for this situation.
Cheers

What exactly is the lateral aspect of your lower leg?
I recently had some very specific pain on one of my lower legs. It was on the outside of my leg (near the Fibula) and near the top of my boot. It seemed better today after some frustrating rest and a few visits to a great physio (laser, ultrasound, two electric things and massage.) Now I've probably jinxed it.

Lateral refers to the outside and medial refers to the inside. The pain on the outside of the leg seems to be in the region where the peroneal tendon is located. It feels like a bruise/sore muscle but there is never any redness or signs of a bruise. I suppose it could be stress fractures but since it seems to go away with in about a week, I have a feeling it is not.

Sounds very similar. I was also concerned about a stress fracture. Based on how it felt today, that now seems unlikely but we'll see. See a physio who has experience with skiers and probably ice that area (10 minute every two hours or something) when it acts up.
Edit: Note that I didn't have the pain at the front - just the side.

Not to interrupt such a fresh topic that has never been discussed here...but could you JONGS take it over to 'Gimp central' where it belongs?
If you want to continue discussing proper medical terms & definitions than I'd recommend 'tech talk' jongs.
oh ya, and you have shin bang because you're a tail-gunner

shut the fuck up jerry jong and take it to tech talk. or take your sensitive soul to epicski.
and btw try different boots - mine went away when i switched from nordica speed machines with custom liners to lange rs130's with stock liners.
and powder goat is quite possibly right about the backseat problem - check your skiing with a good coach if you haven't done that already.

Try using a Booster strap or use the existing boot strap to hold the liner against your shin tight. You want the strap over just the liner and not the shell.

Have you have ever had it checked out by a physician? If not, then you should probably see an orthopedist. If no problems found, do what the others have suggested.

Sounds like shin splints. Could be caused by a mismatch between the forward lean of your boots, and your natural stance?

jerry is a slow learner: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...t=#post1745033
Yep, problem is; his boots have forward lean, his body has backwards lean

I used to have shin issues. I tried all sorts of things on my liner, booster straps, nothing worked. As it turned out, it was a PT issue. Now I just do some foot raises (like tapping your foot) a couple of times a week, and have had no problem since. The exercise strengthens the front muscles in the shin area, and completely worked for me. I'd say since its free, and takes like 10 minutes, try it out.
