With the Reign, if I set it up with enough sag to corner the way I wanted it to, then the suspension was a bag of mush when it came to pumping or popping off lips. If I set it up stiffer to improve pumping, then when cornering it felt like the bike was jacked way up and didn't want to turn. The Evo doesn't seem to have that trade off, it corners way better than the Reign ever did and pumps really well. The first day on the Evo on a local trail I ride all the time I was carrying way more speed than I ever did on the Reign.

I'm waiting on a large in blue but told them at this point I'd take any color to get one. Kevin down in GJ is apparently in a holding pattern on his medium blue as well. Sucks as the family is out of town all week so I've got 3 days down south in Moab or Fruita/GJ this weekend and the Fruita fest in a couple weeks and don't think it will be ready for either. Put some serious consideration into saying F it and picking up one of Go-Ride's Firebirds but at this point I've got the Endorphin back up and running and it made for some good rides this weekend so I'll likely just keep waiting. Just wish there was a little more clarity as to where everything stood as I was fully expecting a tracking number last week for delivery today. Originally word was that some of the ano batch were delayed due to a bad color run so not sure what the story is wit the delays on the painted ones. Originally Posted by flowtron's ghost

Just bought my first real mountain bike: 2011 Specialized Camber Comp. I have already taken it out on a few trails around Durango, and had a blast!

Nice El Mar!! Welcome to the Salsa posse! I just got one (again), and man, do they ride great. I'm on the fence about putting a suspension fork on it at this point. The steel form is pretty supple as is. Might be able to control it with tire pressure enough to forgo the added expense. Originally Posted by nickwm21

New XC whip. Rocky Mountain Element 70 MSL carbon.
First new, out of the box bike I've owned since I was 15! Put a shorty 55mm Haven stem and cutting down a Havoc bar to 735mm for it. Then it will be perfect.... maybe. Also get rid of the big ring, might even get rid of front shifting completely and run 1x10.Flying the Bluehouse colors in Western Canada! Let me know if you want some rad skis!!

Buying a new bike is haaaard.
Especially if you haven't really kept up with changes in the sport for the last 15 years or so. "Freeride", all mountain, XC, enduro, DH, touring -- an overwhelming welter of marketing jargon to cut through.
Plus I made a mistake. I had become emotionally attached to my old hardtail (so many years of awesome rides and getting lost in the woods!) and its style of riding. But that style of riding isn't the same as Out West and ... well fast forward to now.
I just spent the weekend on my new Santa Cruz Superlight 29. For the marketing goons, that probably means wimpy and no where near enough burl for today's modern rock garden hopper gravity enthusiast. But no matter, I don't want to air it out, I just want to start early and finish late to ride as far as possible.
I got it with the RX build, but switched out the wheels for the SunRingle Expert Pro (Clydesdale class), a 100 mm stem and Salsa Bend2 bars, Krest wheels (totally tubeless). On advice of the LBS I also got the Reba instead of going with a Fox fork.
So I'm back in the saddle learning an old sport made new again (to me at least) with an infusion of tech and an impending mid-life crisis (number 3 actually) to motivate me.
For a while I was thinking of going with the Orange color to honor my first bike, a totally boss Schwinn Orange crate (singlespeed). But the black is too bad ass. As an extra swank bonus, the new wheelset with its black and white scheme is pretty dang natty.
Oh look .... it's time to go ride.
