Chris was a friend of mine. I drove up to Colter Bay this afternoon and walked out on the lake and spent some time staring up Waterfalls Canyon at Ranger Peak. Everything was so perfectly quiet and serene. I encourage any of you that are struggling with this to go up there.

Thanks for posting those up. Pretending to drink out of the avalung brings a big smile. But the shots of dawn patrol via headlamp are inspiring.

The last time I saw Onufer was last week. I was skiing Wally's Slide, in Cheyenne Bowl. I hesitated for a moment at the cliff band to eye out a line, and here comes Onufer, straightlines the cliffband, and is at the bottom of the bowl before I even know what happened. Of course, he was in uniform. No one skied more rowdy shit at work then that guy. And at a mountain full of some of the finest skiers in the world, he stood out as one of the best.

Thanks guys, for all you did. For showing us how to make a life out of these mountains. You won't be forgotten.

And one more, taken a couple summers ago. Jackson Lake is a very special place to me, and now has even deeper meaning.

Skiing, whether you're in Wisconsin or the Alps, is a dumbass hick country sport that takes place in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.

Memorial is tomorrow night at 6pm.

PM me if anyone wants to make the drive from Denver. Could leave tonight or tomorrow morning. Will probably stick around for a couple days of Teton AT-ing.

Lou Dawson, a friend of Steve's and a fellow b/c blogger, wrote up a pretty powerful eulogy here.
The blues has always been about taking your problems and turning them into something you can dance to, drink to and fuck to.
We're certainly not a blues band in any kind of purest sense, but to me Rock and Roll has always had it's roots in that tradition.

I have a proposal. Romeo skied Whimpys more than anyone I know. He loved skiing Whimpys. Since "Whimpys Knob" is an unofficial name, I propose renaming Whimpys, "Romeos" or some other reference to Steve. Yes? No?

Lots of good beta on his site, no reason to remove the bookmark.
