Went for a short ride at Lynn Woods. Never been there before, so I had no idea what was going on. Saw lots of people walking their dogs and lots of rocks. I thought rocks would be cool, but they only offered more opportunities to suck .

Next year I might try to spend the whole season there. Who knows.

Nice meeting you today Swede, that was a fun ride (minus the deer flies... ugh!). I got just under 4 hours in by the time I rode back to the house. Rode some really cool trails I hadn't been on before with that group. We'll have to go back sometime and re-visit them - maybe in September when it's cooler and no flies...

Anyway, glad you got back to the car ok.

I know, right? Damn things are a plague out there right now. HP, Willowdale, greenwood, I haven't found anywhere free of them. I'm pretty sure the same half dozen flies followed me for my whole ride last night.

Another fun weekend of riding in Jersey mostly in the Montclair area, but looking forward to getting back to Nathan Hale in Coventry, CT. Super fun riding there. If anyone is in/around CT and wants to ride, hit me up.

You rode some of the hardest stuff there. The better/easier stuff is over by Rte. 1. I honestly think I'm the only person who rides those trails you were on. I don't think I've seen another person on those trails in like 2 years. If you make the trek down again I'll definitely try to give you a tour.

Yep... Go with the heavy bike excuse. That's what I tell myself to try to feel a little bit better about my riding.

That is Lynn. Tons of slickrock and endless amounts of steep rollers and drops to flat. Hit me up if ever want a tour.

I was thinking that would be a good idea, but it was pretty last minute. I could use some log riding pointers too.

Lol. Don't ride rounded slippery logs? Was that in Lynn? Since I don't recognize that spot.

Bow ridge trails are awesome! I don't get over to Lynn often, but always love being up on those trails, I end up having to walk a healthy part of them though lol

Anyone interested in meeting up at Killington this coming Saturday or Sunday? I've never been (actually never been downhilling period), but it sounds like they've got a good mix of stuff there.

Pinnacle in Newport. That wood never seems to dry out.

Are you bringing your bike or renting? Bit of a long shot, but if I can find a babysitter I could be down for that.

I think I'd just bring my bike. From what I've heard and read, half of the mountain is pretty gnarly and the other half is mellow enough for a 5/6" travel bike. Just let me know what you're thinking later in the week.

Kingdom this weekend with a small crew. Burke campground. Look for the red beard and say hi. Also gonna be around there all next week- AP institute at St. Johnsbury Academy- if anyone's riding KT or Burke in the afternoon.

Keep pedaling, look a bike length or two ahead of your front wheel. I like an easy enough gear that if balance loss occurs, and I have to wheelie drop off the side, I'm not too high geared to pull it off decently.

Stay "loose" and keep your bar movements to a minimum. Oh, and keep pedaling. Unless your balance/trackstanding is dialed in, stopping means it's all over. Pedaling is less important if it's a downhill pointed skinny, where you can just let momentum and gravity work.

If you find yourself in southern Ontario looking for a fun place to ride, check out Buckwallow Cycling Centre, between Gravenhurst and Bracebridge and an easy two hour drive north of Toronto. Although I've lived in this area for years, I had never ridden there until yesterday. Silly me, what a blast!

As I was unloading my bike, I was greeted by the lovely Emma, who sold me a trail pass and outlined an "old-guy friendly" ride for a first time visitor. The trails consist of easy wide route with the more technical singletrack sections branching off and returning to the main trails. Trail entrances are marked, with a "hoof print" rating and short description. Don't let a single hoof rating fool you into to skipping an "easy" ride, that trail will be super fun twisty singletrack with banked corners and high consequence for missing a turn. You might "hug a tree," as Emma explained. I rode everything from a one-hoof to a four-hoof and survived. As the difficulty increases, you will find more rock drops (many with by-pass routes), "up and overs" and other technical challenges. I hiked most of the rock drops, and funnily enough one of the four-hoof trails (Missing Link) was a highlight of the day while another (Moose Mayhem) pretty much kicked my butt.

On the left is Mike, the owner of Buckwallow (and the adjacent KOA campground, which is how he really makes his living), doing touch-ups on Still Here with his helper Mark. Mike explained that this trail is a bit of an experiment. Rather than letting the trail run over the natural terrain, banking the odd corner and adding the occasional feature, they are building the trail up off the ground, with the goal of making the end result very smooth and fast. So far they have hiked in over 300 wheelbarrows worth of dirt to accomplish this. Wow.

Slightly longer trip report can be found on the NYskiblog.
"... Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards." – Edward Abbey

Had a good time at Nam yesterday despite somewhat soggy conditions. Short video from my friend's camera.

I'll have a POV of me doing the step down to step up put together after work.
