    Hmmm...

My mkII starts to at the end of the teether... about 320.000 frames behind and the second shutter replacement just ahead... Hmmm... Maybe rig a PL mount on it...hmmm...

Tried to find out about the video codecs in the mkIII, found just some overviews, anyone have links to more thorough stuff?

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

You can choose IPB and ALL-I on the new 5D just like on the 1D X. Here is an explanation of both of those codecs as it pertains to Canon EOS cameras.

http://wideopencamera.com/just-the-c...e-compression/ The long and short of which is the new ALL-I is what you want to shoot.

Someone help me out here... http://blog.planet5d.com/2012/03/can...vs-nikon-d800/

Scroll down that chart in the link above. Go to "lens mounts". For the 5DmkII it says "Canon EOS EF only" which we all know. But for the 5DmkIII it says "Canon EOS EF" but omits the "only". Hmm? What would that mean?

It would say EF/EF-S if that's what it meant. I'd bet money they just copied-and-pasted from a database and didn't pay attention to the wording. I recall seeing "EF only" in spec sheets back in the day, though a quick search now doesn't show that for the mk2.

$1506 shipped for a used 5dmk2. It ended shortly after I posted about it.

I'll sell my 1 month old 5D2 with all accessories/original box/warranty and precision focusing screen if anyone is interested. I know DFinn was at one point. PM me.

In camera automatic HDR sounds kind of awesome. If it works well that is.

Yep. Checked that one out. Still didnt resolve if it does 4:2:2 and apparenlty by the old article, doesnt. Otherwise not a big deal but for the chroma stuff the nikon apparenlty does take
    the longer straw. Hmm..

From all thoughts so far it is 4:2:0

Here's an example of someone taking a Canon promo shot and trying out shadow recovery. Lot of info buried in these files. Shadow recovery is impressive.

Maybe this has been talked about before, but what is the reasoning behind no built in flash?

Canon feels that pro level cameras don't need built in's. I tend to agree. I wish it had the radio transmitter trigger for external flashes, but I can live without with my phottix triggers. Built in flash is basically useless anyway, IMHO. The very occasional chance I take a shot that needs fill light would be the only time I could think of that I may actually use it. Even then, I usually would have my flashes with me.

I have never once used the flash on my 7D. Not once. I've used it to trigger an off camera flash but frankly it is utterly worthless. No one uses it.

Built in flash is the equivalent of a point and shoot camera. Not really cut out to do pro level work.
All I want is to be hardcore.

Also, it is harder to weather seal a body that has a flash.

In camera HDR looks pretty cool indeed. I see this as an opportunity to eventually get into the Mark II though.

You're very right. Interestingly enough, the 7D, with the popup flash, was a better sealed body than the 5D2.

    Aw man what a waste.

I've got my eye on the new one as much as I do the mark II to be honest. Most used mk2s are fucking retarded pricewise. I might hang until the first price drop on the 3.
