    Find me a ski

Im in the market for a new ski this summer to complement my 185 EP Opus. I love the Opus, but being from the East Coast they seem a little too wide for my every day ski.

    Me:
    Height-5'11/6'0
    Weight-180
    Age-19
Ability-Ex-FIS racer, skied since I was two.
Style-Love going fast, charging through anything, and skiing wide GS turns. I like to ski skis like theyre my 191 GS Race Stock Atomics.

    What I want-
    11/12 or 10/11 Model
    Something between 100-110
180+ in length, but under 190
    Charges.
    No tip flap.
    Early Rise/Rocker
Carves and handles like a GS ski.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I dont want to hate on DPS or PMGear, but thats not what I am looking for. Little expensive.

Armada TST might fit the bill.

    Agree with these recommendations:

    4frnt Turbo 182 or 189

    Blizzard Cochise 185

    ON3P Vicik 186

    Plus...

    Praxis Freeride 184

    Moment Belafonte 182

    Dynastar LP 105

I'll agree with the Turbo recommendation. I'm a stoked ex-racer on them. 182s are plenty stable for me at 5'8" 165 lbs. You're bigger than me so maybe check out the 189.

The website says they are a little toned down from the Bibby Pro. If the Bibby Pro wasnt 116 underfoot and overlapping the width of my Opus, I would love that ski. Anyone know of anything smaller underfoot but skis the same way?

And they're cheap. You can find them NIP for around $400 if you search hard enough.

I think you're thinking of the PB&J, which is a mini-Bibby. The Belafonte is stiff and has a flat tail, a different animal.

PB&J would certainly be a toned down (read: skinnier) version of the Bibby Pro (go for the 188... the 82 would be too short). For charging as you want, the Belafonte in 182 is an option but then again, the PB&J will be more playful (without sacrificing much stability), easy to whip around, has more pop, and would be far better suited in tight trees than the Belafonte.

I'm a little confused - you said that you love the Opus except it's just a bit too wide to be your daily ski, but it sounds like you're looking for a charging ski with a high speed limit. Most people wouldn't put the Opus in that category, so are you really looking for something similar to, but narrower than, than the Opus, or do you want a ski that's not only narrower but also a lot burlier?

I love the Opus for what it was made to do; be playful, easy to throw around, and be fun in the deep pow. However, as a daily ski, that is not what I am looking for. I want something that is narrower and burlier. Something that can charge down the hill without me worrying it may wash out.

Since you like Line skis, guess you could considers the Influence 105 (186cm)!? A more damp/stiff (metal matrix) 'charging?' ski with early rise tip, still a rather short turn radius (~19m).
www.blistergearreview.com liked em, or that was the 115mm version, but still. Should be a nice choice.

    Just my two cents

Got it - makes sense now. I'd say check out the Mantra and maybe the Bonafide if not even narrower skis, and regardless I wouldn't go wider than 100. It sounds like you want something that's going to give you true rock solid edge hold on boilerplate at ass puckering speeds, and I don't know of any 100+mm skis that will do that.

Rossi experience 98? Really liked it on firm conditions, haven't skied in soft snow, but you have the opus for that...
Could go as fast as you want. Really, as a no new snow ski it was really good.
They say they have some rocker, but not as much as some others.
Mantra was/is fun too. Again not much rocker.

I know nothing will match a true race ski in terms of boiler plate. I have my 191 Atomics for that. I want something that can take the day old powder piles, smash through them, carve some nice turns, ski the pow easily, and still be able to charge. Pretty much a "one-quiver" ski, but fill in the gap between my 191 race skis and 118 Opus

I have both Mantras and PB&J's. The mantras are a better ski on hardpack and respond better to being skied with a forward stance (weight on the balls of the feet). The PB&J's are better in soft snow, particularly chop and crud, but not as good holding an edge on hard snow. They also prefer to be driven with a more neutral weighting (weighting the instep, rather than the ball of the foot).

You should try the Worth Daily Breads with the Power Core and Carbon Fiber. I'm an ex-racer, if you had FIS points you are better at racing than I ever was. But the ski is burly, carves, charges, 21M radius. Only thing I don't like the ski for is tight trees. If you are ever in the area of VT or NH, you're welcome to try mine. I'm 5'11 195, in pretty good shape, 6ish mile, strong (185 hang clean for reps 405 DL for reps) and they are a lot of ski for me.

You want the Legend Pro XXL, or whatever the current equivalent is.

From my experience, Dynastars are very soft underfoot, at least in their race dept.

Haven't raced on Dynastars since straight ski days, but I wouldn't describe XXL's as particularly soft underfoot (not really soft anywhere, at least not by pow ski standards).

I can tell you that I would describe my skiing similar to the way you described yours, and got on XXL's as a result of the recommendation of another guy who also skis in a similar way (another ex-racer with a very high speed, big turn style).

The only difference IMO from what you described is that these skis might be better suited for super-g type pow turns than they are GS turns...

I've got a pair of 10/11 Liberty Helix 187's in great shape with Mojo 15's that I'd let go for $300 + shipping. Read the reviews and PM me if interested. Got pics I could send. Sounds like they might fit the bill. Sweet sticks.
