Biggest problem is the Kurds have been really working the Turks for support which Baghdad hasn't helped by pissing off the Turks. Baghdad is heavily influenced by the Iranians. This whole mess is going to involve more then just locally. Would be different if they didn't have so much black stuff in the ground but I have a feeling the Middle East will be the Balkans of this century and are going to touch off something way worse then we have seen recently.
Interesting, the Turks really took it pretty hard to the Kurds in the South of Turkey with the PPK shit.... man things change fast. I guess it solves there problem of what to do with Turkish kurds and gives them a friend with more in common.

Kurds would whip the Central gov't, they got their shit a little more together and have been looking for a homeland since forever.
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

Problem I see if the Kurds whip the Central Government is then the Iranians jump in and then everyone else picks sides and jumps in. This could turn into a huge deal really quickly!!

Going back to the OP two journalists, a Dutch and British photographer were held captive by Jihadi's in Syria. Apparently its a who's who of international Jihadis....that is going to be tough for whomever ends up running the show.

Tunisia is in a world of trouble with the Salafis, a small but super violent Islamic group. Just so we know what we are talking about they attacked the red crescent. I mean shit the FARC runs around the jungle for like 30 years has no problem kidnapping and blowing shit up but they still play nice with the red cross. The Germans who are kinda spooked over the Turkish people dealio think Salafis are the fastest growing movement in the world.

There is no other way to say this but the main problem with the Middle East is most of the average people are poor and stupid. Not inherently stupid but deeply uneducated stupid with no real possibility of changing either of those two things. Throw in a religion that to be frank has some issues with modernity, like say fucking over 50% of your population and a certain western nation that shows up every 20 years to really stir the pot and disaster just flows into the region.

The reason for the belief that Syria may have small pox is because in the Iran-Iraq war Saddam largely held off the Iranian counter push into Iraq with chemical/biological weapons, I don't remember which. Essentially we helped Iraq and the Russians helped Iran through Syria who up until recently was Iran's best friend, the Russians absolutely helped the Syrian's fit chem/bio weapons to scud missiles and they absolutely helped them start up chem/bio production so small pox ain't that big a leap.

I read through this tread and have watched some TV coverage today.
My take. WE NEED TO STAY THE FUCK OUT OF THIS
Let the bordering countries in the Region handle it.
We are not the Worlds police. Just shut up and prepare for whatever replaces it

We don't have an option to stay out of this. If this was some place that didn't have the black stuff that runs the world then we could. Unfortunately it does.

CIA finding signed by Obama, date unknown:

Probably cash, commo equipment, and a few highly motivated "advisers" whose motto is de oppresso liber.

    Looks familiar

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

    War sucks.

Remember how we won WWII B-17's fire bombing Dresden and Berlin

But there were no Women or kids in those cities Right?

Word. The reach of mass media back then was super limited, though. Not many "embedded" journalists to plaster images & video on YouTube for all to see...
