+VIBES+ going out to Gary Begley

Gary crashed on takeoff Sunday in Utah on Mt. Olympus. I'm pretty sure he was speedflying/riding, not paragliding like the article says.

Broken leg, "shoulder" and head injuries.

Gary has posted lots of stoke on this forum, search his threads.

Hope you are doing okay man. -Brett

That report sounds like paragliding with a downdraft hitting him just after take-off. Common if there's wind coming over a ridge behind you.

    Heel up!

Hope you're flying again soon, and I very much selfishly hope you make some more videos too.

Visual symmetry, the period is implied.

I was never interviewed : ) but this is what happened in short detail. During cliff launch in light wind conditions speedflying. I was foot launching in snow and at full speed my left foot sunk deep and caused me to lose speed and pitch forward over the edge. That can be a bad thing with a wing that looks like shit. Dislocated hip, dislocated shoulder,7 ribs broke and slap tear surgery was the final result. Lesson learned...clock and time move slow during rehab ; )

    Mostly canopy size and design.

Speedwings have MUCH LESS surface area compared to a paraglider thus speed.

Glad your OK...banged up a bit, but OK. I admire what you do. One time, I was in a bad wreck in the Sinai desert...broke 7 ribs, too.
