Near miss in Shames BC
As much as I`d love every maggot on the planet and their friends to come and visit and ski some of the most amazing lift accessed BC on the planet, it`s important to note that we have some pretty big terrain around here (even thought it`s a coastal type of snowpack). We had a close call up here last week involving some visitors.
The incident was posted on the CAA Avalanche incident board and is also reviewed on the Skeena-Babine Discussion Board.

Description
Had settlements of hard windslab on small slopes while ascending, causing concern for a steep slope encountered higher up. Decided to space out and contour along a small bench below the steep slope searching for a lower angle ascent route. First person crossed at the base of a short steep slope and was waiting on the small bench. Second person triggered the slide while crossing the slope, which immediately propagated along the entire length of slope above. Second skier was swept away immediately, staying on top for most of the ride (approx 100 m) until coming to rest fully buried near a tree. First skier was able to ski downhill (with skins on) away from the toe of the slide, losing visual immediately on the other skier. Initiated self-rescue and uncovered the buried person's face in 10 minutes. Victim was unconscious with weak breathing until face had been cleared; consciousness and full breathing regained within a few minutes. Skis in touring mode did not release. Lost one ski pole and toque. Encountered other parties offering help while heading back to the ski hill after full rescue (crown was visible from ski hill). Badly shaken but amazingly lucky to be ok.
