"The slide occurred on Takhin Ridge, south of Mile 33 of the Haines Highway. That location on the highway is a popular loading zone for skiers boarding helicopters bound for the backcountry."

So this happened in a landing zone or they were in the sidecountry near the landing zone and got avalanched?

One of the finest gentlemen I ever knew. A bad mother on skis, and as humble as they come. Hes saved a strangers life two years ago when he dug him out of a slide in Bear Creek, Tride. Rob Liberman was a Hero. God bless you, Rob.

33 Mile is the "heliport" where groups load up. The ridge is a short flight away.

I'm sure a full report will come out.

Sad is that one of them had an airbag but the rip chord was zipped shut. Just make it a habit no matter where you are, pull your lung out and if you have a bag be ready to pull.

    RIP guys...

This is the responce from HAIC --www.slopeanglemaps.com/avy.html-- when asked what the delay is in releasing a report of this accident:
"Some details have been released and a report will be out as soon as possible. Because the fatalities involved both a client and an employee, this case is complex and it may be a long time before all the details are released to the public.

I wish I could say more, but Alaska Heliskiing is in control of what is released"

    Thoughts???

shouldn't the incident report/investigation be independent of the commercial entity here?

Was just with this operation. They shut down early.
The accident has been really tough on them and rightfully so. 2 people lost their lives, that is a huge thing to deal with emotionally ontop of the administrative crap. Even though you sign your life away I can imagine with an employee death it may require some kind of OSHA investigation and even the client's family may be seeking something in civil court or who knows The overall feeling with the group of heli skiers that had to leave early was that something was going on and they couldn't afford to keep the heli in Haines Every other Heliskiing operation was running and is still running until may 3. They are good people dealing with a shitty reality of the line of work they are in. I'm sure a full report will come out soon, as I was waiting in the LZ I kept wondering how this could of happened and if where I was standing was where it happened. That information needs shared.
