Death sucks: Don't be that guy

Big storm + dry year = powder fever
Powder fever + really, really shitty snowpack = impending avalanche deaths

I'll shit my pants if we survive through the weekend without fatalities, so think twice and make god damned sure you're not one of them. This would not be the worst week to hang out inside the ropes.

And yea, I know I'm a dick for predicting bad shit, but I'd rather make one person think twice than sit around and watch five hundred strangers pump vibes towards your family.

So make good decisions out there while the snowpack changes.
No, the real point is, I don't give a damn

    G4N speaks the truth.

Unfortunately, this will probably fall on deaf ears.

People, enjoy this new snow in-bounds.

OB is going to be deathly for the next few weeks......CO and UT.

Powder fever kills. Game over is permanent.

It's going to be funny the first week of clear weather after this storm to see all this fluffy, untracked goodness, sitting their untouched, while everyone just sits and waits for the guinea pigs to hop the fence and take action.

going to get some heavy rains in the pnw to crush the layers and crash the upper chutes into the lower bowls.
till then tree wells and terrain traps are big problems.

As somber as the thread topic is, this is the same exact thought going through my head. It's gonna be like Lemmings in East Vail for the next week or two.

On that note, Old Mans/King Tuts/Marvins on Sunday, anyone?

Powder fever kills. I witnessed and experienced it first hand on November 13 at Alta. I caught the fever that day, and the dragon stared at me while he breathed fire 200 feet away from me. JP caught it that day and it killed him. My chance meeting with him after so many years high on Bald's shoulder, and the realization that I was one of the last people to see and talk to him still leaves me cold. Don't be that guy is right. The urge is hard to resist but the savy know there will be another day. Great thread to make people think. It sucks, but see you all inbounds. Stay safe, you have people that want to see you again.

Even if death is actually awesome, you'll get to find out eventually.

Really hoping for the best this weekend, but not optimistic.

    BOTTOM LINE

Danger by aspect and elevation on slopes approaching 35° or steeper.
(click HERE for tomorrow's danger rating)
In case it hasn't sunk in yet...

    Danger Rose Tutorial

The avalanche danger is HIGH. People should avoid all steep slopes and stay out from underneath steep slopes. Backcountry travel should only be attempted by the most well trained and experienced traveler and even so, no one can justify getting onto steep slopes. Natural avalanches are expected with additional snowfall.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Keep this thread active throughout the weekend. With how shitty the winter's been for most of us and with how much snow is in the forecast, the fever will be greater than ever.
