The delicate turn, the beautiful grace, the pop off the lip and a strong step into any situation made Sarah a Hero to me.
"Ski like a girl"? Damn straight if I could ski like Sarah.
God Bless her and her family; I'll miss her forever, and every day I'll try to ski like that girl.# # #

From piquenewsmagazine.com:
"Sarah Burke's family off the hook for medical bills
Sponsor Monster Energy responds
by Andrew Mitchell.
In it's first statement since the death of its sponsored athlete, freeskier Sarah Burke, Monster Energy said it has supported her family all along.
"As soon as we learned about the accident, we offered uninterrupted support to Sarah and her family," states a release on the company website.
"Without hesitation we will continue to support Sarah's family, (and) are working directly with them to assess their needs and are committed to helping them financially.
"Sarah epitomizes the essence and spirit of why we do what we do."
The Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA) issued a statement on behalf of Burke's publicist Friday to clarify misinformation regarding Sarah Burke's medical bills.
It has been widely reported that Burke's husband Rory Bushfield and her parents Jan and Gordon were on the hook for about $550,000 in medical bills. According to the release the family has not received a bill at this time, and the cost is more likely in the range of $200,000.
Further, because of donations it appears that the family won't be on the hook for any of those costs. According to a release, "Because of the donations in the last day, it is now clear that Sarah's family will not have any financial burden related to her care. Further contributions will be used to establish a foundation to honour Sarah's legacy and promote the ideas she valued and embodied."
Burke, a halfpipe skier who lives in Squamish, was at Park City, Utah for a sponsor event with Monster Energy, and may not have had travel medical insurance at the time of her injury.
Following her accident during a training run she was airlifted to Salt Lake City and the University of Utah Hospital where she remained comatose and in critical condition for almost nine days. She underwent brain surgery to repair a torn artery, which caused a cardiac arrest, but never recovered. T
Peter Judge, CEO of the CSFA, said the team's athletes are only insured when they travel to events as part of the team. Because she was in Utah for a sponsor event the team's insurance did not apply.
In a release on Friday, the CFSA said that the University of Utah Hospital is working with Health Canada and others to determine if they will cover any portion of the costs. Meanwhile friends and family members of Sarah have been looking into insurance she may have held through her credit card and the B.C. Medical Services Plan.
Burke's business manager started a website to raise money to help the family, and thanked Burke's sponsors for contributing. As of Friday morning the website - www.giveforward.com/sarahburke - had raised almost $100,000. Donations can also be made at www.wepay.com/donations/sarah-burke.
Burke, 29, was injured in a halfpipe fall on Jan. 10 and passed away in hospital on Jan. 19.""this thread is an odd combo of win and fail." -Danno

A chance encounter
I was skiing with my boys. Came over a rail at the top with a step down and my 5 year old had some problems. Had to block for him to keep him safe and this made some of the riders mad. Came to the pipe and a young lady was getting set up for a photog. One of my boys went to cut in on her. I made him stop and ask. She said No Problem, were in no hurry. Both boys made their painfully slow arcs down the pipe as she waited.
I think a good judge of true identity is the random acts of kindness we show strangers. I didn't know you, but that was exceptional. In your final hours you showed an act of kindness to a five and eight year old. I hope to follow that example. To often I don't. You will be missed.

thanks for posting that ^ story; that was very nice of you and I am sure Rory, her mom, her dad and everyone else will like reading it. our (meaning our ski communities) loss of her and most importantly Rory's and her family's sudden loss of her still breaks my heart 10 x over to the point of some tears. that (meaning your story) is a sign of not only a true pro, but more importantly one of the finest human beings this earth has been blessed with and by far the most awesome female pipe skier ever!!!!!!
P.S. What a model of a human being that we all strive to be!! This world needs more Sarah Burkes on a daily basis in all aspects of our lives that both encourage and challenge us just through HER actions and words to be better people towards others. RIP Sarah; your daily, seemingly small, impacts are missed beyond imagination already.Last edited by Xover; 01-23-2012 at 10:20 PM.

We're certainly not a blues band in any kind of purest sense, but to me Rock and Roll has always had it's roots in that tradition.

I just got back from a week at Momentum ski camp, where Sarah went from the only girl camper to one of their premier celebrity coaches over the course of her short but wonderful life. The week before was girl's week, which Sarah pushed to create, and there were 40 girls were there once was only her. Even in my week, my group had two girl half pipe specialists both pushing to represent their countries (Japan and the US) in the Olympics, something they can aspire to because Sarah made it possible. On almost every helmet, ski, jacket, or other surface, Sarah stickers, and badges were prominently displayed. I was happy to share in the celebration of what Sarah helped make possible but was also sad to see the pain carried by those most close to her. My heart goes out again to Rory, one of life's true free spirits.
