Moab TR: 36 Miles in 36 Hours (lots of pics)
With the complete lack of snow in the Colorado mountains so far this winter (and with snow on the trails in the Front Range), my friend and I decided to make a quick trip to Moab to get our outdoor sports fix. We left from the Boulder area early on Thursday and headed to Moab... some rough driving conditions slowed us down a little bit, but 5-1/2 hours later we were in Moab at the Klondike Bluffs TH. We decided on EKG-Mega Steps-Baby Steps- Klondike Bluffs for the afternoon.... the trails were perfect.
Adam on EKG:

On the way up Mega Steps... I'm not sure why it's called Mega Steps. Personally, I think Baby Steps and Mega Steps should switch names.

Coming down Baby Steps:

And finally heading back down on Klondike Bluffs just before sunset... it may not be the most tech riding, but those long strips of rock are really cool.

The next day, we had planned to ride both Amasa Back and Slickrock. The temp didn't hit 30 until 10:00, so the start of the day was delayed. We decided instead to mess around on Amasa Back and add Pothole Arch at the end. What a great ride- a must-do for anyone going to Moab.
On the way up:

Just below the "saddle", before the initial descent above Jackson Hole:

The views, as you can see, are virtually unmatched:

On the way back down from the Amasa view-point:

At the Pothole Arch view-point:

And finally, almost back at the car... what a ride.

What an awesome TR. I've given up waiting for snow, and have been lately craving epic rides instead. [...must...ride...moab...]

If this dry spell continues, I'll be going back down to Fruita and/or Moab rather soon.
The second day we rode in temps in the 30's and it was comfortable... so it doesn't have to be warm down there. As long as the sun is shining, it'll be fun.

I'm going tomorrow - thursday. Any recommendations for a first timer in Moab? One who hasn't peddled since September-ish?

I thought the first ride we did (EKG-Mega Steps- Baby Steps- Klondike) was pretty fun, and a good intro ride for us since we hadn't ridden in a month plus. Nothing too steep except one spot on the back side of Baby Steps, but even that was short.
I highly recommend riding Amasa Back... more climbing and definitely more technical than the EKG ride, but much more scenic and fun. Poison Spider looked like a must-do ride as well, but we didn't have time.

Nice TR.
At least riding in the absence of skiing is a viable option. And a fun option at that.

Very nice TR. I may have to head down to Moab next week if the snow condition doesn't improve.
