video: super scary chute in the San Juans

the snow sucks this year so I thought I would post a video from a line I skied last year in the San Juans. Tight chute in sketchy snow. Also, if you can, you should use speakers or head phones with good bass because I wore the gopro on my chest and you get a cool heart beat sound from it!

No one wants to watch this shit, they'd rather argue about douchebaggery.

Actually, that was pretty sick. Didn't even look like it 'went' till you dropped in. I also dug the heartbeat 'effect'.

I am not butthurt about the couple minutes you spent setting that up.

Damn, I'm a narrow dude and I would be really uncertain if I was gonna fit through that.

Wow, I don't know know about that kinda gnar, its one thing for the superheros who get paid to ski... but if your doing that just for jollys, I don't know whether to be impressed by your balls or tell you that your on a whole different level of sickness.
I think most people would agree that if you skied that chute 100 times in those conditions you wouldn't be coming out 100%.

Maybe I should keep my opinion to myself... I just felt bad for Shirley,
if that didn't go as planned was she your only help?

Put me in my place if you think I'm a retard.
What do you mean why do I have duct tape on my skis!?! It improves edge hold, increases pop, adds durability, and most importantly, boosts horsepower by like 30%... what? your skis don't have horsepower?

Actually I think if you skied that 100 times the only real dangers would be the first time if you werent sure it went or exactly how it was shaped, and towards the last times but only because youd get complacent and bored and make a mistake.

It wasn't THAT steep. It also wasn't THAT difficult to actually ski once you point em down the hill I'm sure. The title says scary and thats exactly right, it looks like an intimidating line that required a ton of confidence in your ability to ski it flawlessly as well as some work checking it out from different angles to know what you were getting into and the confidence to trust your observations and send it, but in the end, it was some sideslipping down to a hop turn to 5 foot air with a small landing to a straightline, in a no fall zone.

    Well executed.

    Pretty narrow and technical line
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

20 days skiing in 2009/2010 (15 Powder days)
18 days skiing in 2010/2011 (15 Powder days)
    16 days skiing in 2011/2012 (2 cat days and 11 Powder day's)
    18 days skiing in 2012/2013 (12 powder day's)

    Thanks BCSAR

the best part is thanking the higher power for helping you nail that gnarly straightline at the end. i have to say i'm pretty sick of people thanking god for stupid shit, 20,000 kids literally starve to death every single day.. either your god is an idiot, or he's got some fucked up priorities. but all that aside, that was a crazy straightline, super tight, with a drop, and a turn. nuts!

Damn that was gnarly. Did you hit rock towards the top when you first dropped? Looked like it was almost inevitable...

yeah, it wasn't the hardest line ever like leroy jenkins pointed out, it was just definitely the scariest i've ever done, which is why i decided to build it up with vag tightening haha. and to answer Sillygoat, shirley was the only help which was not ideal. but, having help at the top of that chute wouldn't have worked either since the person would have had to go down the chute themselves. If I were to go back and ski it again, we would probably bring 150' of rope and our climbing gear and have someone wait at the top and bottom.

no, did not hit the rocks. had just enough speed to hop over them. that was the scariest part for sure though, because I didn't know those rocks were there until i was actually skiing it (couldn't see them from the top because of the drop and couldn't see them from the bottom because of the bend in the middle of the chute)
