Headed up to KW Monday to kill the day off from school and enjoy some sunshine. Had to did out the buddies cabin to get my son's skis. That lot is at street level. No hill, just snow.

We had his biggest day yet at 12K plus in vert. He was stoked.

Did a rather epic tour with 9-year-old Ben today; I really thought conditions would be easier, but neither the precip nor the winds ever quit. Afterwards, he was pretty proud of himself, and I explained the concept of "type 2 fun" to him.

Castle Peak exit --> top of Negro Canyon --> Skislope Way near Tahoe-Donner. First few miles, we expended a lot of effort getting around numerous surprisingly large cornices running lateral to our route (one can be seen in photo above).

Oh yeah, and last weekend, we did the Tahoe Donner (XC) Challenge, a tough race/tour (I figure 20+ km and measured 2000 cumulative gain). Ben won first place in the Junior division (he was the only Junior who completed it); he's proud of the Swix fannypack he won.

And... way to go Owen!! Haven't watched Logan's video yet, but I will.

Got a pair of Burton grom xs bindings and 10/11 C boots if anyone is looking. Upgraded to Flows which are a tad wider and fit little surfers feet better

    Nice job, bobz!

What kind of setup is Ben using? I've been considering picking up the Camp Contour trekkers. I've done a little touring with my daughter in which she wears snowshoes and I put her skis on my pack, but it's less than optimal.

Considered it, but my daughter's feet are tiny--i.e., Size 1. I don't think they fit.

The contour trekkers look nice. I just took his last year's downhill skis and slapped on a pair of Chouinard 3-pins from my antique gear box. And he sort of fits my wife's old T3s.

Jackson turned 7 at the end of November. He love skiing. But specifically, hitting all the jumps on the side of the run.

What is a reccomended plan for a 3 year old starting? Lesson, day off, lesson. Or lessons each day. Want to ease the kid in to ensure she will love it as much as her dad but dont want to push to hard.

Do some searching. Since this is the kid stoke thread I won't JONG you.

There are numerous discussions of this subject (perhaps even in this thread?) in which I and others have waxed philosophical ad nauseam.

At 3, my recommendation is don't overdo it. Go out for some easy stuff with the leash-pack, and spend most of the day hanging out in lodge and playing in the snow. Trade off with spouse. Sure, do a lesson if the kid's up to it, and if the resort will take someone that young, I guess; I don't think my kid had a lesson until 5. Good luck!

How will your 3 year old feel about being dumped with an instructor? I don't think either of my kids would have been cool with it at that age. At 5 it was no problem.

A lesson won't do them a ton of good since they won't be teaching them anything. If getting out skiing is what you're after go to a hill with a daycare.
