I looked out my office with the binoculars and watched someone arc turns down Tumelo face.

How cool it that (for work)?

Meh I could give a about powdr corp. they are scum. Their lack of management skills reflect on an inept organization to run a ski hill. Always having excuses for dropping the ball. It is not the employees but their superiors. So will we see in the bar @ noon sport?

In Colorado, we would be nutting ourselves over Lolita sastrugi like that. I mean, you didn't even have to rappel them! Now that I'm in California, we nut ourselves over any snow at all, young and soft or old and weather-beaten...this year, at least.

JONG question: why is everyone pissed off at Bach?

I'm in Boise for this weekend and next week, then headed to PDX and south to CA. Are the Cent OR 'canoes good or should I go up to Rainier area first? Anyone know if the two maggots in All of Southern Idaho got a stoke thread?

Bachey was owned by a handful of local families until powdr corp staged what amounted to a hostile takeover in the mid 90's. since then they have totally fucked up the place.

^^^ Not to get into a pissing match here, but this view is a little slanted. Here's another perspective...

Yes, about five families started the area on a shoestring, but as time went on, more investors came in. Pape Group was not a founding shareholder - they came in during the early 1970's IIRC, but was the largest shareholder of the resort when Powdr came knocking.

The resort was profitable during the 90's but had become a cash cow or a vehicle for other agendas (land development spurring a need for dirt-moving equipment) for the shareholders. Didn't help when Bill Healy died and his survivors had estate issues. So, when Powdr showed up, the Company didn't have the resources to buy back enough shares from those easily enticed into selling. More than half of shareholders wanted to sell, and Pape made his own offer to buy some key shares to keep control for himself.

So, yes it was hostile from Randy Pape's perspective, but not from the view of the other selling shareholders.

Not to say that Powdr was some savior. And no doubt several operations and Public Relations FUBARs occurred after Powdr made the purchase, but "Totally Fucked Up the place" might be a little extreme.

IMHO, It's a nice resort with good snow in an out-of-the-way area. Not a lot of sphincter-puckering steeps but drier snow than Hood or Ranier or Baker. I like it better than Meadows overall and the touring is better in Bend.

    Flame away...

Best day of the yr, so far!
    Schralping w/ my bro's

I don't hate Mt. Bachelor. But after 11yrs of passholding, I felt & continue to feel their attitude sucks.
+ backcountry is SO much better than Flatchelor.
I've never seen a resort w/ so many hi speed (if they aint' broke) quads & such a shit show for loading the chairs.
Wanna get hung out on a chair in a storm? Ride Bachy!
Please don't somebody try to stick up for Bachelor/Powdr Corp, just give them your $.

Like Tap sez "volcano stoke only, motherfucking bitches"
This is NOT a bachelor stoke thread, or is it?

OK you guys. I have been wanting to farm Kwolh for a few years now. I figure with a handful of people and some quality farmer turns like the ones to your left, we could make an epic work of art. Who's in?!?! (I have to be able to walk first, but this will give you ample time to work on your perfectly symmetrical pow turns...)

My crew didn't make that many turns, in 5 laps

Hey everyone, couple of questions for the bend/flat-chelor locals. I've got a good non-mag friend considering a move to Eugene. Before any move can be finalized, we agreed that we need to thoroughly investigate the skiing/boarding options that the area has to offer. She will be in the area for several days, but I will be driving up to join her later this weekend. We were thinking of hopping over the mountains to check out the bachelor area on sunday and/or monday. We have free passes for one day at the resort, but were hoping to maybe get one day of touring under our belts, just to see something the area has to offer. So, my questions (really just 2 facets of the same question):

    1. What are the avi conditions like right now? Is this set of storms making shit hairy up there right now? Are we crazy for trying to get out in unfamiliar terrain given this storm cycle? Am I being overly paranoid? Please PM me if you have any pertinent information to share, or are willing to discuss the snowpack with me.

    2. Is there some good source for avi forecasts for the area? I can't find any forecast center very close. I've seen the Mt. Hood forecast (looks pretty sketch, hence my paranoia), the Shasta forecast (long ways off), and the Eastern Oregon forecast out of Wallawa (seems like vastly different climate/terrain). Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks for reading. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would stay inbounds this weekend. We have an upside down snowpack with a lot of warming. After this weekend??? In general, I think Eugene would be a fine place to live.

Eugene is fun. Good vibe there. Coast is close and the mountains are near. Recent warming w/ heavy snowfall, says it all. More wet weather for the next week. Stay inbounds.
