I'm calling it a photo finish. They both measure 'essentially the same depth'. I got 1/4 turn more with QK's (6.5 revolutions) than the BF's (6.25) which equates to approximately a 0.2mm difference which was hard to measure using a shoulder screw. I suppose that screws with minor difference at their ends could provide some negligibly larger differences:

FYI for those looking for washers/spacers that need to fit into counterbored holes: NAS 620 spec washers for a #10 english screw are a pretty good fit for an M5 buttonhead. OD of the washer is just slightly smaller than the screw head. Available off the shelf in .032" and .063" thicknesses.

Nick just told me via email that the thread depth onn the QK's has always been the same, no different versions with different thread depths out there.

I'm mounting up some classic bindings and using inserts, cause why not

    SNS Propulse RC1
    Per binding:
    3 10mm smallhead
    2 12mm flathead (I only have 12 and 16, 14 would be ideal I think)

So per pair of bindings 6 10mm smallhead, 4 12mm flathead

nah, I may at some point go dynafit/sns but for now it's just so I can be cheap and share bindings between skis

While on this awesome subject, anyone know of a way to use inserts on 3 screw geze toes? I considered drilling the head of my screw and countersinking it but I dont want to risk it since they are so rare.

Here's the screw spec list I've compiled for the QK inserts I've done (over 300 pairs now). I use A2 304 DIN7985Z grade stainless steel machine screws all with no. 2 pozi heads. The lengths are designed to give 4-5mm of protusion from the binding.

    Vist Free:
    4no. 20mm pan heads
    8no. 12mm csk flat heads
4no. 12mm csk flat heads with reduced dia heads

    Look/FKS Pivot 14:
4no. 20mm csk flat heads shortened to 18mm
4no. 20mm csk flat heads shortened to 18mm with reduced dia heads
    4no. 10mm pan heads
    4no. 20mm pan heads shortened to 18mm

    Look/FKS Pivot 18 (without 4mm toe lifter):
    8no. 10mm pan heads shortened to 9mm
    4no. 10mm pan heads
    4no. 20mm pan heads shortened to 18mm

    Look/FKS Pivot 18 (with 4mm toe lifter):
    8no. 16mm panheads shortened to 13mm
    4no. 10mm pan heads
    4no. 20mm pan heads shortened to 18mm

    Look PX12/14:
    4no. 14mm csk flat heads
4no. 14mm csk flat heads with reduced dia heads
    4no. 10mm pan heads
    4no. 25mm pan heads shortened to 23mm

    Marker Jester, Griffon or Squire:
    4no. 8mm pan heads
    4no. 16mm pan heads
    8no. 8mm csk flat heads

    Marker Schizo:
    18no. 8mm csk flat heads

Marker Duke or Baron (upto 2009/10):
    16no. 8mm csk flat heads
    2no. 8mm pan head

Marker Duke or Baron (2010/11 & after):
    18no. 8mm csk flat heads

Marker F10 Tour or F12 Tour:
    18no. 8mm csk flat heads

    Head/Tyrolia Peak/Mojo:
    4no. 16mm pan heads
    4no. 16mm pan heads shortened to 14mm
    4no. 10mm pan heads
    4no. 8mm pan heads
Note that the two rear holes in the metal chassis of the heel pieces on these bindings are undersized which makes it difficult for the new screws to remain vertical during insertion which then causes alignment problems with the inserts. It is therefore recommended to run a 5.5mm or 7/32" drill through these holes prior to using the new screws.

    Rossignol Freeski 150 or 180:
    12no. 10mm pan heads
    4no. 25mm pan heads
    Salomon STH14 Driver:
    10no. 16mm csk flat heads
    4no. 10mm csk flat heads
    4no. 25mm pan heads

    Salomon S912ti with lifter:
    4no. 25mm pan heads
4no. 20mm csk flat heads shortened to 18mm
    4no. 16mm csk flat heads
4no. 16mm csk flat heads with reduced head dia

    Plum:
    16no. 12mm csk flat heads

Dynafit Radical Speed (withOUT stiffening plate fitted)
    8no. 8mm csk flat heads
    8no. 10mm pan heads shortened to 9mm

    Dynafit Radical ST
    8no. 16mm csk flatheads
    8no. 10mm pan heads shortened to 9mm

    Dynafit TLT Speed:

    8no. 10mm csk flat heads

^ Is this list the same for the binding freedom inserts?

I am trying to figure out what screws to use for my marker griffon bindings with binding freedom inserts.

I am pretty sure that the data for the Jesters is incorrect. I don't know about the Schizos or the demos but for the Jesters you need:

    12 x 8mm button head
    4 x at least the 16mm flathead

The data in the chart counts as 18 screws for the Jesters but there is only 16 holes. Also, there is no way that the holes on the back of the tow piece can be held on with 10mm flatheads.

Well, my speed radicals have been mounted and skied a few times now. I used 10mm smallheads up front, and 10mm buttons in back with spacers (.062" #10 NAS 620 spec washers, so about 1.5mm). As such, 8mm certainly would have worked as well.

    Tyrolia Peak 12 (BF inserts)

    4 14 mm 'smallheads'
    4 10 mm buttonheads
    4 16 mm buttonheads
    4 20 mm buttonheads each with 2 M5 washers

The rear holes are a little troublesome. An 18 mm buttonhead would be perfect but is not available in stainless steel as far as I can tell. 16 mm is a little too short. 20 mm too long. But a 20 mm buttonhead with 2 M5 washers is perfect. M5 washers fit perfectly around the screw and also fit nicely in the recessed hole that the screw sits in.

If I'm not mistaken the Head Mojo 12 should be indentical.

I have no idea if the Peak/Mojo 15 is the same as the 12.

For 2012-2013 Griffon w sliding afd.

Can someone verify this for me? It appears the two screws on the toepiece closest to the afd are 20mm flathead. Assuming I am reading it correctly, the chart is calling for shorter screws. The other two at the front of the toepiece are fine.

    Thanks.

    Salomon STH discrepancy

From QK, the screw list says:
    (10) 16mm Flatheads
    (4) 10mm Flatheads
    (4) 25mm Panheads

This 18 screws versus the 16 flavors on Jon's chart. Can some one confirm? I need to verify a Russian order and international screw size mistakes are killers. I'll be sending enough to cover both lists, would like to know for future reference.

    TIA!

The extra two screws are likely for if you have a 916 versus a STH 16. the 916 has an extra heal screw, so 2 extra screws for a pair of bindings.

    Edit: see two posts below

After "screwing" around with MFD Alltimes and Binding Freedom inserts, here is what worked for me...

8X 8mm screws from jondrum for the fronts. 8X 10mm screws for the backs. I thought I needed a spacer/washer for the toes but I was just being a moron.

Um, sort of. Here's how it breaks down:

    - STH 16, 916, and any STH or FFG with a Driver toe = 18 screws (4 per toe, 5 per heel)
    - STH 12, STH 14, and any STH or FFG with a Z-series toe = 16 screws (3 per toe, 5 per heel)
    - S912, S810, S914, and any Salomon binding with a Driver toe and tabbed heel track = 16 screws (4 per toe, 4 per heel)
    - Z12, Z10, Z14, and any Salomon binding with a Z-series toe and tabbed heel track = put this shit on ebay and buy another binding before it snaps on you.

Flat heads...the mounting plates have countersunk holes.

Just ordered 16 more inserts and epoxy for a second set of skis I just drilled. I love this product.
