The Next Civil War
Not that I wish a civil war under any circumstances, but Jer's prophesy of the next civil war starting in Madison, WI next March got me thinking as well as the "Just Quit, Obama" thread.
There's a lot of big dates coming soon, and it seems people on all sides are really pissed off. So - what sets off a violent outrage? Where?
Again, not that I wish anything close to this happening ever, it got me thinking.
Possible events:
Supreme Court's Heathcare ruling, next June
Election Fallout, next Nov-Dec
Euro dissolution, ?
Possible venues:
Washington DC
NYC
It seems California has hosted some of the more violent events with the Occupy people so maybe there?
Would a nuclear-armed Iran galvanize the US? Would it take an aggressive act by them to do so?I still call it The Jake.

Really, what we have here is failure to communicate.

I think a Dancing with the Stars upset is as likely to cause a civil war as any of the factors you've mentioned. That is to say, it's plausible.

Civil War is not really feasible in the traditional sense. While there are regionally divisive issues, the distribution of opinion is far too mixed. It is not like 90% of the Christian conservatives live in one region or 90% of the Democrats live in another. It is more like 40/60 or 55/45 etc. Families are spread across the country and vary in opinion greatly. Ideas cannot be geographically segregated. Under this relatively homogenous distribution, until people are willing to drag out their neighbors and shoot them and advocate others do the same to their own
relatives, all you are going to hear is a bunch of teeth gnashing and blathering by opinionated talking heads.
Civil war is the worst type of war.

This is an idea with merit. Add a bit of excitement to the usual morning commute. I'm thinking the driver of every car needs to be politically identified with a huge "R" or "D". this will allow the picking off of the opposition on the way to work. Sort of like fighter planes as they zig and zag all over the place as they try to avoid getting hit while trying to line up a hit. A wingman would of course be mandatory.

You will not have a civil war per se. However, if Europe tanks and that sets off a breakdown of world finances, shit will get interesting quickly. What would people do if there was a month long Bank Holiday announced by the Federal Reserve due to 0 liquidity. Grocery stores are emptied, gas stations go dry in a week, possible disruptions in electricity. That is what you need to worry about. Not the 90% going after the 10%, although there will be that going on too. Make sure you have dried and can foods a plenty and guns/ammo to get you by for that first 30 days.

There won't be a "Civil War".
Modern Americans are by and large to big of pussies to really want to get down and dirty.
