New organizational structure to the forums/ need mag input
Guys, this has been on my mind for a while and I would like to deal with it soon. I would like to clean up the main forum listing structure on this page:

As it currently is it is a random string of forums that make no sense. I have been using a forum lately that has really clean groupings and I like it. Here is that forums main listin page.

Now I attempted to do the same with ours on paper. I do not believe that I have all the proper nomenclature, but wanted thoughts, ideas, opinions, etc.

Could we stick padded room into "everything else" or "connecting with people" and have polyass be it's own seperate shithole? Several other boards do that and it's pretty successful at separating out the sewage from the river.

Hard to think of a downside, as it really would only impact that home page? Guessing hitting 'new posts' will just bring up recent posts, like it is now?

New organization means very little to me. Once thing I would suggest that happens on another forum is you can actually click the whole headers and every subforum in that category will appear newest posts first. So you could essentially get your fix by clicking on just 4 categories but also have the ability to go to each subforum in their own entirety.
Example, they have a category that is like this padded room. It has sub categories like music, computer/gadgets, tv/film, etc. By clicking on the main category you could bring up everything from within all the subforums. But you could also just go to each forum individually.

This. I like how it is. You could keep the list a little shorter and cleaner by including a subfolder on the main forums list that includes forums that TGR wishes to keep noise levels low ie Pollyasshat, Ask TGR, Arhives. That way only a few rarely used forums would take the extra mouse click. Originally Posted by hop

- revise the "new posts" search to generate more than 3 pages (something like 5 or 6 pages would be nice)

As i understand it, the forums would still all be under one roof, the 'home' page [the little house symbol to the left of the forum title]. It would still be one click to the home page, then one click to the forum of choice. It's just instead of a long list of forums, they'd be organized into 4-5 groups. Originally Posted by hop

I agree padded room needs higher standing. It would be REALLY nice if the new posts search could be customizable so as only to include the sub headings you want. If it is possible but not that big a deal.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

My $0.02: Leave it more or less alone. Fine tuning is fine. Maybe that's why they call it fine? Just:
Combine Summits and Hook Up into "Summits and Hook Up" because the content overlaps -- include that in a main board if you go in that direction.Sometimes pride comes after a fall.

Personally I could care less about tht but the new photo uploader sucks balls.
I want to be able to post full sized, UPRIGHT photos in line with the text of my post. That's been a huge draw of this place. Now we have to click on each thumbnail to view it full size and that really sucks. Plus, the thing seems to randomly turn pictures on their sides and we have no way to rotate them back.
Think about it, the best thing about the forums is the photo stoke and now that's basically ruined.
And I can't tab to the 'post' button anymore.
We've got bigger fish to fry than the format of the forums menu. That doesn't matter at all, it's not like there's hundreds or even dozens of forums. They're all right there on one page.There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air

When forums get all subdivided it makes them hard to use and fragmented.

either delete it entirely or move it to a minor category.
Gear Swap - should be in the major category
Also, there used to be a lot of social talk in the main forum. it used to be the "chatter" forum.
A few years ago the police decided that anything non-ski had to go in the padded room, which was fine until padded room got parental controls and banned for porno at work.
Maybe create a porno only forum, and let the padded room be the (non-porn) general chatter again. And let it sit in the main forum.
The reason I would put Gear Swap and Chatter/padded room in the main forum category is not that they are ski related, but that they are the core of the history and traffic on the forum.
Folks come here for:
1) skiing, 2) ski gear talk 3)ski swap and 4) social chatter among maggots even if its not ski related.
The last category is why I think the padded room or chatter forum should be brought back. It is fun to discuss current events, share jokes, funny pictures or websites, non-ski stories, etc. (but NOT polyass - it is so great that is relegated to the asshat forum - never change that). . .
