skis for a friend
I have a good friend that is the market for a new pair of skis. I stay very current with my equipment, for in bounds and also my AT set up, (have 2012 Coombacks) I generally have a good idea of what is going on. Here is the dilemma, my friend Dave has not purchased new skis for about 15 years, long story but his employment did not allow for much spare time. He is a good skier but only skis groomed, tough groomed are not a problem for him he just does not ski anything else, likes to ski fast. He learned to ski in the 60's and never made the change away from locking his feet together. In the past a pair of GS skis would fit the bill but not sure what those are any longer. What can someone suggest in 180 cm about 85 underfoot with low rocker?

As your attorney I recommend some SERIOUS pow rehab.
Get the guy in some trees, bowls, even bump runs on a deep day. Keep him away from groomers as much as possible. Talk to him about his problem. Ask him how he feels about what he does. I am sure he wants to change, but you are going to have to be gentle. Link up with his friends an create a support group. As for skis, it doesn't really matter, just make sure they are wide and have tip rocker. Maybe Volkl Katanas so that you can describe them as "all mtn"?
Sending vibes to this guy.

I will pass this on to him, pretty funny. Actually the Katanas are not a bad choice

i disagree shasti, bigdude's friend sounds like a great guy, please keep him on the groomers, on piste, or in the lodge when it's dumping. as long as he's having fun, why mess with that? maybe 85cm is too fat? you know they still make racing skis...
