Revvy mags! My move is official - after new years I'll be driving the 'bago (aka my RV) to the area and will be shredding copiously.
Lookout for a greasy looking skinny kid with a mullet in an RV with christmas lights, loud music and smoke billowing out the windows.
Will be looking for touring partners, drinking buddies and hot broads not that there are any here.

oh, and my parking spot is not finalized so maybe one of you dudes could help me out with a parking spot with access to a power hookup. Willing to share power bills, supply pilsner and I give a mean mean blowjob. just kidding! (not really)?

Just got back from Kokanee glacier. Snowpack at 2m. The week was good. Topsheet deep. It snowed 10cm while we were there and due to the lack of wind and snow the surface hoar has not yet become a factor.
We skied pretty much everything with out any concern of stability. In general the skiing is still good out there!

Hey guys, just looking for a few pointers. I want to make a trip to Interior BC around mid March. Probably won't have money for lift tickets, so me and a friend will just be touring around for around five days. With this in mind, what are some of the best places to go? I was thinking Golden maybe.
Is this a good place with a lot of touring options nearby? Good places to camp? Cheap hostels around? What is the snowpack up to around that time? Thanks!

rogers pass , Therese a hotel right at the top , literally next to the discovery center ( where you get your permits ) That would be my vote

That would be ideal, but we are on a slim budget, as driving from Colorado to BC costs a pretty penny (loon? beaver? what are they called in Canada?). Splitting time between camping and hostels is what we will probably be doing, or maybe even a little couch time if we're lucky.

Adam - Dual occupancy at the hotel in Rogers Pass in winter is essentially the same price as two beds at the hostel in Revelstoke. The only drawback with the hotel is that you have to be creative with meals or else spend all your money in the restaurant/bar with the dead animals on the walls. Or camp as Lee says. If you stay in Revelstoke or Golden, you'll spend time and money going back and forth to the pass, which is where you'll want to spend your days touring.
Endure - looks like you live at rogers? I haven't been up yet. Probably head up for some weekday action in the new year.

agreed with what crank says, although supposedly they upped the hotel price a bit this year. another option could be Nelson?
and yea, I'm living up here for most of the winter. let me know if you make it up

It looks they upped the rate so I called and asked how much the "skiers special" is in the new yr and was quoted 89 so who knows???
In Jan we are going to the pass including a couple of nites at asulkan hut so I think we will book the hotel now
we always take a cooler a kettle and a toaster which takes care of coffee/breaky/ water for the thermoses & lunches, eat in the bar for dinner ... cooler goes in the car at night
There are no block heater plug-ins so I ran a 50' extension out the window to get my TDI started, we never blew any breakers or got in any trouble

I miss the hot tub of falling ice sheet cold drip death. Apparantley it collapsed... no hot tub this year. The only hot tub where wearing a helmet would be a reasonable thing to do.

right now, skiing is fabulous. however there is a 6-12mm SH layer buried 50 cm which can propagate far and wide.. skiers have been caught in it the past few days. No new precip is forecasted for the next couple days but a zonal flow is expected to come in for Friday and long-term forecast is showing snow. seasonal temperatures.. currently -6 at RP (1300m) and -10 at Fidelity (1900m), keeping the snow fluffy. There's currently some light precipitation with blue above.. I'll try to take some pictures to put up this evening that may help your decision.
I can't speak for RMR, although I plan on hitting it Fri and Sat before heading to the coast for a week

Quick vid to show lower conditions on Grizzly(around 1500 m):
OBS: snow is settling.. HS on Grizzly and Fidelity is ~150. Found a few distinct layers, including precip on defragmenting snow down about 30cm (ultimately storm snow on older), portions of surface hoar down 45, although it is non-existent where skiers destroyed it in previous weeks, and some rounds and rounding facets lower. Two CT's were moderate down 30 and 38
Quick outline of layers:

Storm snow crowns from the past 48-60 hours:

Lovely skiing terrain:

Don't be concerned. 4 weeks is plenty of time for the storm door to open, we only need about 25-30cm to get good coverage. Even then, coverage is good on runs with only 85cm base at the top.

You'll have a good time, I promise
