Not sure how much snow has fallen on it since then, but I would be cautious of open slopes in that vicinity for the next bit.

endure, is Marty a buddy of yours? I saw that video on facebook this morning. I have plans for a morning tour tomorrow, but if anybody wants to get out later this week, fire me a message. Or there's always the hill...
Damn....Thanks for the heads up! Probably heading out there Sunday.

    From the MCR:

    > A skier triggered size 3+ avalanche occurred late this afternoon on Grizzly Gully, off the summit of Grizzly Peak. The first skier of five did a ski cut in the start zone with no result. The second skier in made another ski cut, again with no result. Upon doing a kick turn in a shallow area however, the slope in the start zone failed down 1.5-2 meters, producing a large avalanche that ran to 1700 meters (the pinch-point of the Grizzly path). It ran 800 vertical meters, over about a kilometre. The snow lower in the path was primarily storm snow, down about 50cm. One skier was involved, sustaining serious injuries, and a second lost some equipment.
    >
    > Although conditions seem to have stabilized in Rogers Pass, with few new natural avalanches running over the past few days, some instabilities still linger near the base of the snowpack. It is unknown whether this was related to a buried surface hoar layer from earlier in the year, or whether it was wind loading of the large amount of storm snow from last week.

    Tod Mtn Stoke

It's 15min long and 30 years old but some of the classic runs are there - chief, shoulder, hyw 22. Great
shots in the burf bar when the wagon wheel chandeliers were still there for hanging upside down and guzzling beer on.

I was on the first chair yesterday (Sat. Dec 3) when they opened the Burfied Chair to commemorate 50 years of lift service skiing on Tod Mountain which first opened in Dec 1961 and pre dates places like Whisler and Vail. There was a huge crowd of about 20 people there prior to the 9am opening. Well, a huge crowd for the Burfield Chair that is.

When we got to the top, after a longer than normal ride due to high winds, we were greeted at the very top with 50 mph winds in honour of 50 years of skiing. With much of the rest of the mountain already open for the past two weeks, it was with great anticipation that we headed to the previously unskiied runs at the Top of The World. What we found was all the runs from Back Door to Sunnyside and the Chief and Highway 22 had been wind scowered (sp?) down to the weeds in the centre of the runs and 1"-2" thick breakable wind crust on the sides of the runs and in the trees. Oh well, it keeps the gorbs away and can only get better as the season progresses.

yep, that whole side of the mtn get's pretty scoured. All the snow from that area and crystal bowl gets carried across the hill to the other side of the crystal chair. Conditions are either ON or OFF I've found in the Burfield area. When they are ON the skiing is really fucking good. Maybe 2-3x a year in a good year in my experience.

Didn't feel like driving anywhere so we went to East Peak. Wind scoured on north and east faces. About a meter deep on the north facing ridge in the glades. 70-60cm down decomposing surface hoar? Facets at the bottom for 10cm. Going up the east facing ridge on the small bench just before the top of the ridge the bowl whoomphed from where I was to the north face of smokeys bowl. Went back to the south facing ridge of east peak which had much better snow although a bit rocky at the top.

Skied the Hermit area today. Snow quality was great though the true southerly aspects were crusty towards the bottom.

On a negative note, I just got my forecast from snow-wish.com (name courtesy Your mom's a snowblader) and they have nothing in there for the next 9 days!

short movie from last week in the purcells during the storm.

    http://biglines.com/video/1st-edit-w...minic-melanson

Good taste of the pow pow!
This coming weekend we be flying into Kokanee for a week. Fingers crossed for some snow in the forecast but more crossed that the pending surface hoar of this high pressure does not become a huge problem with the pending storm systems ahead. Not only that looking for a solid bridging layer on the depth hoar the purcells in the west posses. Trouble is in no doubt ahead but maybe the magical weather puzzle will be nice.

Whitewater claims 150cm snowpack. Might not be much for you coastal people but coming from the Eastern Rockies 150cm base is tilting towards epic on my scale.

Besides staying at the Chalet is well worth it and we by-passed the lottery and custodian bullsh#t

Revy Mags, thinking about meeting some friends from AB at boulder on the weekend for some heli laps. I am assuming the north facing stuff in the trees is still ok?

Everything in the alpine in the western monashees is wind hammered, the gorge is getting skied out........
