Thread: Moving to Jackson: Head Boneshaker or Inferno?

I have a killer hookup at HEAD skis, so my options are limited to their lineup.
Expert skier, former racer. Grew up east coast, but plenty of experience on the West coast. Moving to Jackson, looking for the ski for big dumps.

Current quiver:
HEAD I.SL--Race-stock SL skis
HEAD XRC1100 (116/68/100)--all mountain East coast ski
HEAD Jon (132/94/119)--has been my daily driver on trips out west the past 2 years
Missing: FAT ASS POW SKIS

Inbounds at JH- Kiss of Death, you will get a lot more use out of them.

I don't get the whole morning ski thing. There are pow skis that will rip when things get cut up and mogully. The boneshaker probably isn't that so much, but you can make it work. I just don't like changing skis.

Maybe i'm a retard because i ski my stiff fat skis all of the time, but it's not from lack of choice.

I say get the big one because you've already got a 94mm waisted all-around ski.

Mainly because I am old and feeble and don't like 125 underfoot inbounds when things get skied out and firm, and that I have my skis in shop at the base, I do indulge in changing skis sometimes.

Call me weird, but I would imagine this gentleman, the OP, has not skied a ski that wide, and is planning, so far as I can tell, skiing quite a bit at the resort.

So my point was actually to gently direct him towards the one that is 110 under foot.

The difference between the 94 and 110 skis is actually quite large.

FWIW my everyday ski is 104 with metal, average pow is 108, no metal and rockered tip, big day is 128 with rockered tip
weird snow/hung over/tired is tip and tail rocker 110 underfoot.

I would say go for the 125 mm waist skis. You'll use them more than you think you will, at least I use super fats more often, & love it!!!

These say they're specifically for Jackson Hole. And you can use them in Hokkaido and Davos if you ever go there.

Get rid of your two skinny skis, you won't need them. Since your getting a good deal buy the Kiss of Death and the Bonshaker.

Fair Enough, but I would say get the 110 if he wanted one ski. If I was going to get a head ski it would be that one too. The boneshaker looks more like a pow ski than a charger.

My friend used to work customer service there, and he's still got connections. I get skis for 10% BELOW cost. That cannot be argued with...

Gaper, you are correct that I've never skied anything fatter than my 94's. They performed just fine for me in 2' of blower a couple seasons ago, but if I'm going to JH I want to do it right. The fact that I was so comfortable on my 94s suggests to me that I really don't need the 125's, they'd just make life that much easier. I'd rather have a one-ski, through pow and slop kind of ski and from what it sounds like, the 110's may be better for that.

This is the exact point of this thread, to hear some opinions, so thanks!

"Former racer"= I finished 26th in the J-3's at Holiday Valley

"expert skier" = I skied the Wall at Holiday Valley --for "super expert" add: at night.

"plenty of experience on the west coast" = I went to Tahoe with my parents a few times.

You'll do fine in the tram line at JH. Carry on.

Oh how I'd like to walk back that expert claim--but it would ruin the flame war(s) that ensued.

I did not read through the whole thread but you are aware that there a several US independent maunfacturers of Powder (big Mountain) skis. Here on TGR we tend to support and like the product from our local Ski Manufacturers.
