sorry I didn't want to stir things up. Just saw Coal Creek and all the similarities. Happened within an hour of each other. Both in January. Very similar forecasts. Thought these two incidents combined paint a pretty clear picture. Here in Alaska in Jan. I can't remember any day where I was worrying about heat being a factor on considerable avalanche days.

Just going to reiterate that the resort skiing has been pretty good, without the stress, ego and over-analysis that only the pass can provide.
Carry on, mellow back country users.

I'll take a little over-analysis over the crowds at the village any day
Glad it's been good for you boys to!

Crazy, but I like the social component as well as the skiing.
I love the vertical you get from the tram, the apres, the tourons,
yes, the tourons, the whole damn thing.
And, as my wife will definitely confirm, I hate hiking.
Except short ones to powder.

I will now carry with me the vision of an aged, and overweight Italian Stallion for the rest of my days. Does not bode well for my future waistline I fear!

Well... back on-topic. 25 short skied well today. Fast and fun. Alot of people out there today. Didnt see any crowns in Avalanche Canyon but the wind effect/sastrugi was pretty visable looking down in the canyon as well as along snow devil ridge so they might have been blown in enough that I couldnt see them.

managed to tip-toe up wimpys. some freaky feeling snow underfoot at times, but no settling, and laid the skin track up in the safest zones possible. skiing was quite good, wind effected in spots, and fast like aaron says. looked like one other group going up as we were heading out.

Thanks for the conditions updates Aaron & Steve - I'll be in town Moday thru Wednesday, with the intention to ski the Village on the best day. Sounds like things are dicey in the steeps, if anyone is looking for park treeskiing/south side pass partners between then lemme know. Call you on the way in Aaron, enjoying some Idaho burnt tree BC noodlin' in the mean time.

I've never seen such butthurtedness on this thread before, ::: another note, if anyone sees a contour roam helmet cam underneath the "wind lip jump" on Mary's, its my little bros, lost it today goofing around up there and couldn't find it. 12 pack for anyone that finds it.

Jackson, I'd like to give a big "You fucking rock - Thank You" out to all of you locals here.
It's been a blast for the last three days although my Miss's hurt herself bad (ACL tear, bone break) but we came through good overall. Her first time in the Tetons and the time of my life skiing a resort.
Everyone from the lfities, to the dudes in the ski shop, Patrol (you guys fucking rock), the ER (made me laugh - Coco and Dr Fresh Prince, you're the heat) to the ladies and gents just killing it all around me - what a cool fucking attitude this place exudes. Made all of us wanna go local!
You all stoked our stay. For a crew that grew up and is used to BC, CA, UT, Germany, Switzerland and Austria... shredding it here in Jackson was inspiring. Never felt this welcome anywhere else before. Period. Anyone who says JHWY people are anything but fucking amazingly good people to be around doesn't get the vibe or has some sort of insecurity issues. Nothing like watching the people around here throw down to get you in the mood to ride!
Thanks for the sick vibe and hope you guys get puked on for the next few months. We're on our way back to BC where I'll get some turns in, console the Miss with some vid's and TR's on this board. Post 'em up...as the ACL shit gets worked out we'll be having her live vicariously! Dream(s) are to be back before the season ends...maybe a little 15 hour trip in the future!
RLTW!

Thanks for posting thsi Dub. Talked to Jay today who told me is going to be moved to town (prob in the SAR building but not certain yet) sometime next week. GC will not be there according to Jay. Bummer considering GC probably has the most info we can learn from.
Black Canyon skied pretty good today. Mostly wind-buffed pow with a little zipper crust thrown in the mix to keep you on your toes. Wind was whipping around pretty good up there.
Newly loaded test slopes were very reactive to triggering and we observed some shooting cracks as well.
