Way to hoof it all the way out to Bearpaw boys. Sounds like a good adventure.

The Ville was sick today. Sublette laps all day long: crushing it!!!!! Good stuff. Still plenty of rocks out there, but man we found some good snow inbetween those rocks.

Is it currently worth making a trip from CO to ski JHMR? If not, would another 12" make it worthwhile? 24"? Two storms to build another 10" of base?

After A-Dub's video the other day, I can't help thinkin' it might be a pretty good time... Guess I'll check the ol' website and see if the have a catalog of what's open.

Edit: For $99, I would think they'd be giving out Altoid hummers from gnomes. But I don't think there are any gnomes.

$99 is a lot. No thanks.

MOIST WESTERLY FLOW OFF THE PACIFIC ADVANCES ACROSS IDAHO TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. THE FLOW IS MOSTLY ZONAL...PRECIPITATION FAVORED IN THE MOUNTAINS AND EXPOSED WEST SLOPES OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND EASTERN HIGHLANDS. THE STRONGER SURGE OF MOISTURE IS FAVORED TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY WITH LIGHTER AMOUNTS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.

Couldn't tell you about the village, $99 tix etc but this is definitely the most encouraging news I have seen out of NOAA in at least a month, for whatever that's worth. Targhee is usually does well with zonal flow but bring old skis anyway because its still 3 more feet till the rock boards get put away. The steeps are still nasty with rocks and the lower slopes are thin and brushy under forest canopy but the ghee is about 70% good to go offtrail. 20-30 inches of packed powder base, on average. You'd be a fool to charge through it at top speed but thats your business. Anyhows, looks like Mt. Baker is the place to be. Check out the GFS precip model.

"IT STILL LOOKS LIKE A MAJOR PATTERN CHANGE
BACK TO A MOIST...WESTERLY FLOW BEGINNING THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK
    AND CONTINUING INTO NEXT WEEKEND."

    Ahhh, that's good to hear.

Made it out to 4pines yesterday. It was as rocky as I figured, but we made it down just fine. And there were some great turns to be had. Lots of wind effect out in the open, and bottomless sugar in the protected trees. Mmmmm, nothing like skiing knee deep facets!

And it would take a lot of snow to justify $99 a day with holiday crowds.

although the skiing was no doubt fun, that is a super scary base layer.

melt crusts, facets and more all lurking under a new (please, let it snow this year) heavy dump of Nino.

Found similar results minus the wind affected on Wednesday when we did it. If you're willing to take a few scratches, taking the road on the way out is pretty easy too.

    LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY

WHAT DOES LOOK FAVORABLE...IS A CONTINUOUS POTENTIAL FOR SNOWFALL
ACROSS THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS THROUGH MUCH OF THE
    FORECAST PERIOD.

THIS TROUGH WILL BRING THE BEGINNING OF A PATTERN CHANGE AS ZONAL FLOW DEVELOPS AND BRINGS
THE FIRST OF WHAT WILL HOPEFULLY BE A SERIES OF PRODUCTIVE SNOW
PRODUCING PACIFIC TROUGHS IN MOIST WESTERLY FLOW. SOME SNOW SHOULD
DEVELOP ON TUESDAY WITH ANOTHER POTENTIALLY MORE SIGNIFICANT
PERIOD OF SNOW ON WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...INTO THURSDAY.
SOME AREAS OF THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS...PARTICULARLY THE TETONS...
SHOULD SEE AROUND 10 INCHES OF SNOWFALL THIS WEEK.
    Merry Christmas!

Before this storm rolls in I thought I would share what we've been up to so far this season...

Filmed october 6th-december 23rd 2011 around JHMR, Teton Pass, GTNP, Grand Targhee, Wyoming Range, and Togwotee pass Wyoming.

I extended my stay here in Jackson a couple more days to catch this storm. I was scheduled to leave tomorrow, now I leave Friday. I hoping this storm justified the $150 I spent to change my flight.

WYDOT update about pass closure tomorrow. Not too stoked to see the 'may remain closed all morning' part...No question there will be some questionable stability the next couple of days, safety first mags!

The Wyoming Department of Transportation has scheduled a closure of Teton Pass for tomorrow, Thursday December 29, 2011, at 3:00am for avalanche control. Due to an exceptionally weak snowpack and severe winter storm with strong winds and heavy snow, the highway could remain closed through the morning. Snow slides that reach the highway may prolong the closure and deteriorating weather conditions may force an earlier closure. No overnight parking at the summit of Teton Pass will be strictly enforced. Highway travelers and backcountry users are advised to plan accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation. 28 DEC 09:28

Fun day up high at JHMR today. It was good to finally feel something soft underfoot.

Still needs a lot of coverage but keep it coming!

Ya, and it will be. I was out at relatively low elevations (7500-8500') and the new stuff was slabbing up, cracking off easily, waaay upside-down even with only 8-10" of new. Now it is 35• and raining at my house in Driggs, 29• on the pass. Well, this is one good way to reset the snowpack, by flushing out all the old crap. I'd say use your lift tickets for the next couple days, but wear your beacon inbounds. Sound like Dec 2009, anyone?

So much for using your lift tickets over on the spud side. As of 7:30 am, Targhee is blown down, all but Shoshone and the conveyor belt. Blowing like stink at my house, 38•F and raining lightly.

Avalanche Warning still in place, looks like they got results from the exploders in Glory Bowl, plus Beaver slide path (over on the west side, in the cliff area just above Coal Ck) ran naturally, as did Cow of the Woods down in the Hoback.

anyone have any recommendations for some low angle touring? I've been to 25 Short and Maverick and looking for some new places to check out on either side of the pass.

Have you explored the entire area around 25 short and Mav? You should be able to spot quite a bit of reasonably low angle skiing from the lot to the top of either. There are options at Tog as well as the northern part of GTNP.
