Are 188 CRJ's too short for me

Hey guys I am looking into buying a pair of 188 crj's. I am 6'4 215 expert skier I want to throw some dukes on these and tour every so often. I am just wondering if there are any bigger guys that have skied these and do you like them or should I look for something else. Thanks

That depends... are you an aggressive skier, or AGGRESSIVE?

I don't think they're too short but they may be a touch soft at your size.

I have always been a very AGGRESSIVE skier but after 2 knee surgeries last season we shall see. I'm 28 if that makes any difference.

I'm about your exact same stature (an inch shorter if you must know - jesus quite rubbing it in your giant) and have the 188 CRJs. I loved them for every use except deep chop or heavy snow. In Vail luckily we didn't get a whole lot of heavy stuff. They were great in shallower stuff and even in straight pow

I'm getting the EHPs this year. I love 4FRNTs for powder skis, this will be my 4th pair

    I was taking the piss...

but since you said that, I think that ski is too soft for you.

Just hand flexing them yeah......not too short but maybe too soft.

depends, what other skis have you found to be too soft, or short, (or too long/stiff) overall my guess is yes, too small/short, but need some more info from you

honestly I the last ski I felt was too small was the 183 bentchetler but that was before they had the 192. off the top of my head that is the last ski I can think of. only skied 4 days last season do to knee surgeries

I'm about your size, and ski the CRJ almost every day at Alta. That being said, I don't ski like most of the manimals on the board.

If you're looking to have something fun and playful to get your legs back underneath you, then I think you'll have a blast on the CRJs. If, on the other hand, you're looking for something the get you back to your AGRESSIVE ways, then I would suggest looking at the 193 EHP as a good option. Or the 196 Renegade. You won't overpower either of those skis.

I really liked the CRJ's in my quiver...with a bunch of other chargy(er) sticks. it filled a nice niche spot of trees and 2-10" pow days with on/off piste versatility. really fun ski that likes to be skied a little slower and more playful like. Definitely like to be skied centered, and the tips can be a little divey in deeper pow for a bigger dude.

ultimately I chose to exhange it for a 186 renegade that hopefully will be equally as fun in the tight spots but offer a little more crud busting and fast skiing prowess . I have thought of making the CRJ's a touring ski if I can't sell em.

FWIW 6'2" 195 and not very flippy or spinny.
    thank you jerry

Go longer. I give this advice to almost everyone I know buying skis. Sure, it would help to know what else you liked. The Bent Chetler in 183 must have something like a 130cm running surface, i.e. quite short for a big dood.

I'm 5'10" 155# and I would certainly buy your CRJ in 18X. I ski ON3p Viciks in 182. If I bought a powder board, such as Chetlers, PMG, Billy Goats, Praxis or whatever, I would go for the 190 size as they ski sooooo short. I don't consider myself "aggressive" but lots of people disagree, i.e. it doesn't mean anything. The short, fat, sidecut ski fad is dead, and for good reason.

I skied the 188 CRJ as my daily driver at Bridger Bowl last year, I'm 36, formerly AGGRESSIVE but still aggressive, 6' prolly #225 with all my gear, and like long walks on the beach. Demoed the EHP but preferred the CRJ.

Other skis I own and liked 187 XXL, Explosiv, Volkl g41,etc.- you know, stiff-ass skis.

For me the CRJ changed the way I look at the moutain, more playful as others have said, yeah for sure. For me they helped me enjoy turning more, I felt like I was working with the ski not fighting it, and actually skied backwards quite a bit (its fun!). They make a few inches of fresh feel like a meeeelion dollars.

    Go for it.

Longer for sure. I am a bit taller than you, same weight and want to upsize from the 188.
