My guess is the hang fire above Jersey bowl and along chainsaw ridge might be too suspect to let people close by. There's no hang fire really on whistler at Roundhouse level.

    Thoughts on tomorrow?

With another 30cm on the way I'm shooting for alpine on Friday. The cooling trend should tighten the snowpack tomorrow (rightside up snow will be nice). I can't see them opening any alpine tomorrow with another massive load of snow today/tomorrow. They are probably spending all day blasting and will do the same tomorrow. But what do I know?

Oh well, tomorrow should be pretty deep on the north aspects.
haha fucker. prob snowed 20cms since the morning and is gusting at prob 80k. had to check some work emails using the whistler computer. anything with wind on it is deep. the pillows above blue lift line had about 2 ft. off to gun barrels.

While that may be true, they kept stringing everyone along with windhold. Gonna go any min now... I guess the sticky-icky wouldn't have been all that great to ski anyway so who cares! Pretty much everyday is a crap shoot, so you gotta go all in with your decision making and end up having a great day or going home early. Be back at it tomorrow for sure!

Tomorrow's my last day, so I really hope they get it open tomorrow. Today seemed to be an outlier in terms of lift openings so obviously predicting tomorrow is difficult at best, but does anyone with more experience know if there's a chance of one mountain's alpine opening but the other's staying closed?

Thats what I'm talking about. Saw this coming from a mile away especially considering how they were pushing the limits of Alpine openings last week. Patrol and ops get a break on this one, they've earned it, especially considering everything else (death of coworker etc). Resort is slow, terrain is prone, wind is up, but the good news is the snow will still be there tomorrow and its going to be just sick.

Nah, gotta get out there whenever the snow report is over 20cm's no matter just to see what might fall in your lap. You win some and lose some, but work always takes the back seat to a potential pow day. Like the other guy said, tomorrow could be a repeat of today... or not, who knows!

Any update on conditions today is much appreciated.

Trying to make the call to head north this weekend, hoping it didn't rain at the higher elevations.

Sick day! Got untracked in Patrol Trees (very nice), Raptor's Ride (also very nice, but heavier at the bottom), Watch Out (pretty good), Cougar Chutes (wind affected in spots), Sapphire to Zut Zut (great), the last Sapphire Chute (epic), the middle Sapphire Chute (great), The Couloir, and West Cirque to VD Chutes.

Couldn't have done it without jongsinwhistler's invaluable advice!

It pretty much sucked today. Rained right to the top yesterday. THE worst conditions I've ever seen. Don't bother. Hit Squaw Valley instead. I hear it's going off down there.
