Anyone know of a place in Whistler to try the Blizzard Cochise/Bonafide?
Also that is a huge crown on the roll, just wow.

I saw the Cochise and Bonafide (I believe) for retail at Fanatyk Co a week or so ago.

Looks like there were 3 more avalanches yesterday, Monday the 2nd.
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Fou...447/story.html
http://www.whistlerquestion.com/arti...arate-avalanch
There was a slide up Steep Creek on the Duffy.. injuring two skiers, one in critical condition.
A slide in Tyax by Goldbridge, injuring a non-TLH ski tourer.
Another slide in Bralorne by the Ski Hill (Sunshine Mtn.) Involving sled skiers injuring one.
READ THE DAMN BULLETINS! Today is going to be even worse stability than yesterday. Even low angle terrain in the trees is releasing in spots.
http://www.avalanche.ca/cac/bulletin...st/south-coast
" Persistent weaknesses are primed for human triggers, even on low-angled slopes, and slabs can propagate over large areas."
I'm really feeling for the overstretched SAR crews.. must be getting pretty frustrating for them.

There's a new slide path down low on Currie that ran through old growth a couple of years ago when we had that really sketchy snowpack. Snapped trees 1 meter in daimeter like twigs. Even the squirrels got smoked on that one. Don't think the low angle, anchored trees are safe.

Did some low angle action on Rainbow yesterday. We saw a band of natural activity visible at treeline on N and NE aspects running in the top 20-30 cm's.
The pit was one of the scariest I've seen in a while around here. Our compression tests got moderate results about 20 cm down, and then moderate results over 1 metre down. That was enough for us to play it really safe and turn our ski day into a glorified picnic and lake rooping session.
More snow and high freezing levels next 24-36 hours. Lets all take it easy for a couple of days here to see what happens. Ride the lifts in bounds and leave the backcountry alone.

Lots of info and pictures of the past couple days' incidents on Wango's blog:

Sorry to all those who knew Duncan, and let's put an end to this sad streak of events as it seems like danger will only increase the next couple of days.

Great, quiet pow day.
Listened to this interview with Brad Sills today while skiing.

Interestingly, no mention of who the group from Bralorne was.
Seemed relevant.Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.

Today was great in the resort. Was the first person into Pakalolo, Sapphire Bowl, and Big Bang (I think all the locals must have stayed home after seeing the 2cm overnight totals). Sapphire to Zut Zut was the best, a solid 1-1.5 feet deep all the way down. Lifts at Blackcomb started shutting down so I headed over to Harmony, which was great. I don't know the area so I stayed off the true steeps in complete whiteout, but I skied an untracked, bottomless line down what I think was Low Roll at 2:15.
The next two days will be great, anyone going to be skiing?

this is in the forecast. Don't know much about Whistler (I'm from Seattle, ski Stevens). Does this mean tomorrow is going to be sick or horrible?

The forecaster this year (seems like the same last year) should be shot.

Great turns today, and a good buzz from the folk on every chair I rode. The crowds had departed and it was a great day's storm skiing. - Skeeze has it right on Zut-zut, it was superb in there. Even hot rocks and smoked salmon were filling nicely enough for some deep turns. Hopefully the freezing level remains somewhat sensible for tomorrow.

haven't been woken up by rain on the roof at 5am in a long time....ugh, I have work that needs to get done anyway, and this new forecaster is the worst....I can't believe how often they have the freezing level really low, then you check the live conditions and it's 1000m higher than that.....weak

~30cm overnight, >30cm expected over the next 24 hours.
Looking real, real good. I stayed away from the alpine yesterday due to shit vis, and it looks to be even windier today.

When we skied christmas eve? I think. The last time we had 30cm new and warm, they said no alpine and Glacier opened!
I think they play it by ear, but today looks pretty intense so no wonder.
As for forcasting snow forcast gets it maybe 70% (guesstimate) correct two days ahead.Looking to ride the shore but don't know where to go?

How can ALL Whistler sub alpine chairs be open and NONE on Blackcomb. Makes no sense. It's the same wind! Got fucking soaked to the bone waiting at solar. Not too long ago, one could pretty much rely on how mtn ops were going to open stuff, now it's become a totally random shit show.
Oh well, tomorrow should be pretty deep on the north aspects.

Got one decent untracked run on Excelerator, then waited for Jersey Cream, left when patrol said it wasn't going to open (and they were getting 1 meter crowns on Jersey Cream Wall), went to In The Spirit below Crystal, which was unbelievably heavy and not that enjoyable. Waited 20 minutes to get on Excelerator, traversed over to Springboard, past patrol who said it was total glue and "ligament altering." He said he wouldn't suggest it unless you'd already lost both ACLs, and he was correct, it was absolute glue.
At least I got one decent run!
