^^^ WTF?
Even if they get 8-10", is that gonna be any decent? From what I've seen/heard, almost all of the snow that has fallen so far has burned off. It just got too warm along the divide and in SuCo this last week for the snow to settle into a good base. Seems the central mountains are holding onto their snow better, as Indy Pass has been skiing fabulous and had a pretty good base this whole time. Too bad it still isn't open.
My plans are to do something in SuCo on Saturday, likely LL, and then try and head down to WC on Sunday, either ski the pass, or the resort (damn that $20 increase in price). Other option might be to try and hit some of the backcountry in CB, but I'm not entirely sure on what that'd be like (saw some decent skiing being reported though).
Though, I'd be a bit concerned about the depth hoar that's probably being created these last coupla cold clear nights. Add some new snow, and we might see some real slide activity for anything that has held onto a good amount of the October snow. Kinda leaning towards just sticking to the resorts for now based on my gut, but it might be nice to still just get out and about and see what's going on, even if the conditions call for just meadow skipping and mellow pow turns.

the cats did a good job of packing down what fell early do there is an ok base down right now, especially up high. I don't have all day due to a friend having a baby that day but we're gonna get out that morning for some exercise and hopefully find some pow.

Vail is skiing really well right now, probably better than a lot of other places across Colorado. It's got a good solid base, with another fresh 8-12" on top. Nothing gnar or steep, but a lot of really fun turns. What more could you ask for in early November? In total, about 5000' vertical, and a shit-ton of mileage, because Vail is fuckin' flat. My legs are beat, but if I had a chance to do it again, I'd be out there right now.
In the morning, I joined montanaskier, DaHeel, and others, and headed up to Eagles Nest from Lionshead, where we dropped down Born Free, Bwana and Safari.

No takers for seconds or thirds, so I set out on a solo mission to tour across the frontside. I headed back up to the Eagles Nest and followed the ridge up further, past the top of Avanti, before dropping down Kangaroo Cornice and Look Ma, which had the deepest and highest quality snow of the day.

From the bottom of Mountaintop, I skinned up Swingsville, and dropped down Riva Ridge with a couple boarders I bumped into on the way up.

Good quality skiing all the way down to the Riva Catwalk, and then we picked our way down to Golden Peak, which, while thin, and you had to pick your line, was still skiing very well. Plus you got to wave at the racers who were stuck on the hardpack all day.Last edited by Lindahl; 11-07-2011 at 11:47 AM.

I posted some shots in the CB backcountry thread, but we remote triggered (500 feet downslope!!!)a sizable slide on a N aspect due to heavy W winds. Triggers are still shallow and easy to hit. We need to deepen this snowpack up!!
Drive slow, homie.

Anybody planning on heading out to vail tomorrow morning? I'm thinking of heading over. Is the ramp still free since the mountain isn't 'open' yet?

Just a friendly reminder to come out to Bonfire Brewing in Eagle at 7pm tonight to see Dean Cummings' "The Steep Life" and hear Dean's snow safety presentation. Bonfire is doing drink specials prior to the movie, so feel free to head down there early, get some tasty brews, and meet Dean.
