    Thumbs down Splat is Down!

    What the fuck!?
Mammoth Mountain took it's pound of Flesh from Splat AGAIN on Sunday!

It was just a "panel" anyway. Not that many turns. Plenty of other good stuff to hit...
But you had to hike all the way over, and go and lay down some Tracks, didn't ya!? "There is only one track in there".
Such a drag! What a crappy end to your season. Mammy is making you pay (again!)

I think Dave & me saw you go down from the lift (it was Wipeout 3 yeah?) Heard your "Ow!" Wasn't sure it was you (we thought you were headed further over.) Thought it might be your wrist.

There was some real bad JuJu on 23!

After seeing you go down, we saw Lish lose a ski and go for a tumble in Dropout. On the same frigging lift ride! (He was ok, I think). Ski Maker Knockdown.
Saw another guy lose his ski's there on Monday, too.

You missed a good couple of days.
    Such a Fuck-Up!
There was untracked over on Dave's, that you could have got. I went over there as my last run on Sunday.
Got to ride the Gondi into the Snowballs last ride up on Monday. (Nice pic on MM's FB page)
Even found a nice little air at the end of Climax Signline.
Hangmans got hit 3 times (nice one Craig) with a down-climb through the choke.

    ^^^Bummer, heal fast.

Stick to well cover spring runs at Mammy. Those shark teeth are taking a toll on you.

I seriously looked at hitting Wipeout on Monday, but thought better of it (obviously a smart choice.)

Anything left around Tioga? Some friends want to hike Dana this weekend. Should I bring skis / skins?

^ If the Sbag boat taxi is running, then you can possibly get into some goods back there - dunno how suncupped but the refreshers over the last 2 weekends had to have helped keep things smooth.

Everything else accessible off the highway I've heard is a lot of squeeze for not a lot of juice.

Saddlebag had some of the best boat-taxi-opening conditions I've seen this past weekend. Here are some pics from Sunday (full TR here):

Did anyone hear anything about June being shut down for the summer AND the winter for 2012/2013?

    Edit:

    Here is the official statement:

    "June 21, 2012
Rusty Gregory, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area Chairman and CEO, announced today the company will not operate June Mountain this summer and for the upcoming 2012-13 winter season. “June has operated at an annual deficit each year since its purchase in 1986,” said Gregory. “It is time to invest some of this subsidy into the analysis and planning required to position the resort for a sustainable future, then secure the approvals and financing required to create it.”

Mammoth purchased June Mountain in 1986 with the idea of significantly increasing the size of the resort by building new facilities, extending new runs to the June Lake Village, and fostering additional developed ski areas along the San Joaquin Ridge, resulting in a connection between Mammoth and June Mountains. For a number of reasons, these plans were never realized and June Mountain has, in turn, suffered from an identity crisis that has both stifled its ability to achieve its full potential and required substantial financial subsidy from Mammoth on an annual basis. Cessation of operations will help the company dedicate its focus to a new future for June Mountain. Mammoth will be working with its partner the U.S. Forest Service to reach the best possible result in this endeavor.

In the weeks to come, Mammoth will be working to determine if and to what extent it can absorb June’s year round workforce.

Mammoth Mountain will continue to offer world-class skiing, snowboarding and summer activities for locals and visitors to the region.

Mammoth Mountain has operated continuously under permit from the U.S. Forest Service since 1954, and operated both resorts for the past 26 years. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area also owns and operates a variety of resort businesses including recreation, hospitality, food and beverage and retail including Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Tamarack Lodge and Resort, Mammoth Snowmobile Adventures, Woolly’s Adventure Summit, Mammoth Mountain Bike Park and the Mammoth Mountain Inn. Mammoth Mountain also operates Juniper Springs Resort, the Village at Mammoth, and Sierra Star Golf Course.

My interpretation is that June is done for good now. They will absorb what staff they can, let this simmer down, and draw up a plan to sell the lifts off. Maybe they'll salvage the high speed quad and throw it up on Mammoth somewhere. 25 years of operation at a loss is not a good sign. And if Dave couldn't get his grand vision implemented back when he held the purse strings, then I doubt Rusty can do it now that he must answer to investors.

Rode Dana couloir yesterday. As the pic shows lots of coverage, but its a pretty good scramble in, especially in wind. The snow was icy and suncupped up top, but lots of fun regardless!

Scouted (no skis) North Peak today. Couloirs still go to/from the top but a climbing party I spoke to reported soft rotten snow. A patch on the lower apron below summit couloirs looks good - better than lower Greenstone. Big 'schrunds on Conness couloirs.

    Headed back out thataway Sunday.
    sorry

Anyone going to start a new thread for the 2012/2013 Eastern Sierra season? Maybe this year we shouldn't put how many inches we are supposed to get in the title, eh.

    Oh yeah, & this...

...and let's wait until snow actually falls. The late start to the season was brutal last year.
