This morning did not suck. The winds distributed that 6" of dry/light fresh from last night as follows:
    - One foot on east facing slopes
    - One inch on west and south facing slopes, interspersed with knarly ice - except for Roach which was good

Two hours of fresh lines in the Bowls and 3D/ORing/Rock Garden with plenty of turns deep enough to make my wee-wee tingle. Saw a small loose slide in 4 bowl.

They opened Heather from Moon Bowl down at about 10:15 - lots of deep goodness down there where the winds made some great deposits. I tried traversing up from Moon but just ran into ice and sastrugi. Left at noon when everything was shralped, temps went above freezing and my legs gave out.

Cascade did not open. May be some goods for tomorrow depending on tonight's temps and if they open the upper canyon

Oh yea, it was bluebird until noon too. Not bad for end of April

It was very nice yesterday morning kicking around in the slush on Cascade. By noon it was velcro snow, however.

I think most of those people crying should fuck off. Everyone gets the pass holder entitlement syndrome, but are too stupid to realize that passes get the hill open, it's day visits that keep them going. Portland daypasser's are fickle as shit an generally clueless about snow conditions. If people want to cry and go get a T-line/fusion pass next year so they can meadow skip at Timberline, roll the dice on Ski Bowl conditions and terrain they can't competently ski, then so be it. |Go the fuck away.

Agreed ... that's a bunch of whining. It's getting warm up there and May 6th is plenty late, despite a late snow or two.

Or you could be a Skibowl pass holder that has asked them 3 diiferent times when they plan on closing and get NO respone, then late on the 26th they announce the 29th will be the last day. Slowest customer appreciation day I have ever seen. Skibowls management is way more fucked then MHM.

I am not sure there is "management" at skibowl. The way that place is run is a joke. I think I got my night pass scanned 3 times total this year. Cant beat the night terrain and proximity to Portland for weekday trips though. The sad thing is that it wouldnt take that much to drastically improve the experience.

I'm still trying to figure out how it's safer to take off my slim pack to ride the lift? Evidently having me fumble with both my pack and my poles, as well as buckles dangling everywhere to get caught up is preferable to me wearing it.

You actually had somebody ask you to take your pack off?

I've noticed at meadows and skibowl both, all you'd have to do is skin up past the lower lifts, and then you could ride for free all day. Never got scanned once all season on the upper bowl, cascade, star, etc.

yeah, i agree that people are whining. but meadows could have avoided it, as they acknowledge in one of the responses. i wasn't comparing mhm to anybody else.

so i guess we get the gates next year instead of liftie scanners.

I like the gates idea. Don't have to worry about keeping the pass handy, and the "track your turns" thing on their website might actually become semi-accurate. Think of the pissing contests we can have!

What lifts are they putting the gates at? Just the base area lifts or all of them?

If they work well, count me in as already happy about the RFID gates. Sweet.

^^^Yes! I like the RFID system, seems much more effecient to me.

MHM should be installing them at every one, just like Bachelor. And the track your turns will actually be accurate next season!

Damn, if all those whining had just showed up to ride, it might still be open.

Completely understand the decision, last Sunday snow was Velcro by noon, as one other mag posted earlier. Whey anyone would buy a pass based upon skiing into May is beyond me. Hopefully all 50+ are so pissed they don't buy passes next year.

all they had to do was say they'd be open the first weekend in may and based on turnout decide from there. they've done it before. but coming out and saying may 20, even with the caveat, comes off a lot differently. i wasn't suggesting it was a big deal. it's petty and stupid. and then to respond to 50+ emails all saying the same thing added to the stupidity. and it was easily avoidable.

I liked when they started calling out the biggest complainers for only showing up a couple times over 6 months then crying about a couple weekends, when they had all miraculously planned to go. Again, fuck those people. Everyone complains about poor form from MHM, but they have to deal with a real bitchy customer base who have no idea how well they have it.
