I went up today expecting mediocre and received. Started with a skin up White River with the dogs to wear them out. didn't ski anything being solo, just exercise and practice with the dogs. As I pulled in the White River lot I realized I forgot my jacket - stoner moment without the weed - just stupid. Double Mountain hoody with layers sufficed the balmy conditions.

Got to Meadows around 11. That new lift is placed perfectly! that will remove so much bullshit although I usually park at HRM with pups in tow. Regardless, well done MHM.

Shade held wind blown sugar, sun baked some cream cheese, sun then shade made typical death cookies. all in all, great first day of the year.

Left the new sticks at home, felt good to let the rock skis ski rocks and various other non-snow entities with minimal regard.

    here's to it!

^^^Joined Patatero on tour up White River. Variable is right.

    Need snow:

Patatero baking in view of Jefferson:

    Jefferson looks shiny:

Today would have been a beautiful day to summit:

I thought this was going to be nice soft corn. It was not:

See Patatero's tracks- he found some softer snow:

Still a nice base up there, most of the rocks covered, just need snow. Doesn't look like its going to happen anytime soon...

The weather looks like it might be changing next week. The forecast has gone from no chance of precip, to 20% here and there. I hope this means systems are pushing that high pressure out of the way, and we will go back to our regularly scheduled train of cold winter storms...

I have a few vacation days to burn, and also need more snow for a post Xmas holiday to Central Oregon!!! PRAYING for snow...

Unacceptable. Was planning on getting some b-day turns in tomorrow at Meadows, but part of me wants to just stay home and do chores so I'm primed when the goods finally show up.

It was fast,it was fun,I carved it like a son of gun.
No lines,no gapers,no wind to chill.
Just sun and snow and 1 big ass rock.
I'm done till the snow flies.

Just do it. No, it's not powder. No, it won't tickle your balls like some of the off-piste terrain. But will it be fun? Unequivocally yes, I say. Sliding on snow is fun, especially on a crowdless day, with decent coverage, Cascade and Vista spinning, and miles of corduroy for you to destroy all by yourself. However, I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has just become infatuated with the 195 Superbro. While I'd LOVE a big dump, I'm kinda digging the mach-looney 2 hour groomer days right now. It's sure getting my confidence up for when the snow flies. Have a nice birthday dood.

The pattern is going to change next week- all of the models are in agreement at this point. Too soon to say what this means in terms of precip, but at least it means this giant high pressure upper ridge is going to break down.

It should start snowing right about the time I have to go to the EC for a week and a half

You and I both know those Superbro's are fuckin' noodles. Remember Greg's Flex Test?...Epic Fail!
Get off your fuckin' high horse and go pound snow. You and I both know that your SuperBro's couldn't hold a torch to my 200 Volkl P30 Race Carvers or my 168 Volkl Gotama's!

Yeah I remember. I was like blah blah stiff race construction blah blah fast stable blah blah two layers of titanal blah blah blah. He grabbed them and hand flexed them like they were noodles, said something like "meh" and then pulled out his downhill 2x4s for me to flex (well, try to flex). Oh well, I guess I just have to accept that I'm not much of a man.

But man, you were absolutely ripping on those 168 goats. Such a stable platform for a 200# ex-racer. Bravo.

Same here. Somebody gave me a pair of old Beta Race 9.28s the other day, and they killed it up there. Not what I thought I'd be thinking about skiing at this point, after that opening weekend.

I'll be home for early Christmas with the family this weekend; anyone interested in skiing Pea Gravel this weekend if the forecast holds?
