I know, I know- this thread is supposed to be for obs only. But given that SFB came up with the idea, I'm hoping you guys are ok with a single spam post.TGR has pulled together some sweet prizes for a contest by the maggots, for the maggots:
http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ot-POV-Contest
We want to do it again next year, but we really need participation from all of you guys this year to get it off the ground. This season's contest is not limited to footage from this year- go back into your archives and pull out your sickest stuff. Or best beaters. I know that Trackhead has copious archives of ridiculous mini-heli footage- all of that is eligible. It doesn't necessarily have to be from a POV camera.

Nice stoke smuggs! You guys come from Alpine or slog in from white pine?

Heard there was a slide with injuries on SE Superior. Probably not the best day to be doing that. Anyone have any details?

One skier in a party of two took a short but painful ride in a windslab from near the summit of Superior, skiers left of the summit, at around noon. The injured skier had possible pelvis/femur injuries, probable rib fractures, and lots of bruises, although he was able to ski out himself. A WBR response was mobilized but the skier was at the road by the time responders were on their way up the apron.

Today was top notch! Snowed hard till 6ish then went blue just iñ time for our first run. Had a small release in new snow but was easily mitigated. We skies till the sun went down. Snow was a little lighter than expected, but overall creamy n dreamy and in the face! Could change if sun comes out! Tomorrow should be a fine day!

Got out for a long one with springsproject. Surface instabilities noted, manageable sluff on steeper faces. Snow was good up high, getting heavy around 1:30pm down low.

dawn patrol upper LCC up and over down through mill south, did not find any instabilities and skied better than I thought. Came around and then skied Alta for the balance of the day, a little heavy but good. Tomorrow should be good also, no all time record low snowfall for the season, surpassed it today

Found decent snow off the East side of Twin Lakes Pass about 4 PM yesterday. The upper 100 yards was pretty fluffy for April conditions, but the snow was a bit on the "stiff" side down lower. I didn't get any face shots, but the on the upper half of the run I had lots of "belly shots". I didn't do a ski cut, but everything seemed pretty stable. Thanks to the guys from the day before who made the skin track.
I saw many tracks on the NE side of Wolverine Cirque from folks who had come from the top of Milly. There were also several tracks down a couple of the chutes off the summit ridge on that side of the cirque. I only saw one small skier-triggered slough over there that didn't run very far. I didn't get a look at the slopes farther around to the South and SW of Wolverine. There were hardly any tracks coming down the North side from the top Patsy's.
These photos are grainy because I didn't bring my DSLR yesterday and had to use my iPod camera.

Lots of folks out there today. Sun and greenhouseing got to most terrain other than shady aspects again today. Saw a few skier triggered sloughs on the steeper stuff.

Skied North and South side of Superior, also saw some skier triggered sloughing on N aspects. Lower elevation S aspects skied surprisingly well at 11:30am.
N Facing skied well

Alta Ski Area will be closed to uphill traffic until Monday, April 30th. This closure will be in place for all Collins Gulch terrain and all ski area terrain in Albion Basin excluding Grizzly Gulch, the Supreme Lift area, and the Albion Basin Summer Road.
Thanks for your cooperation.

The season that never was.
For a season that never happened, the last three days have been pretty fun. It's weird how your perspective changes this year and 5" feels like 15 last year! I hope this just keeps coming!!

Got out early to ski Hallway and Little Supe. The couloir was a little dicey, but south facing supe skied great at around 10am.

I thought it was a funny line when someone else used it.
it was a good season, and hopefully continues. But certainly it is the most lackluster in terms of snow quality and snow stability that I have experienced here. I moved out here in 02, so my window of evaluation is limited. April and may could still go off huge!
Sorry to go off topic

Skiing has been ok. Nearly at the 100 mark. Most of the comments I've heard about this winter involve mostly butthurt. I just ski. Started in dirt, will probably end on dirt. Just like last year.

Does anybody explore farther north? Between SLC and Ogden? There is some good looking stuff out there.
