Well, it's not for UDOT, but if you could please bootpack all the starting zones in east facing mineral and the Eeenie Meanies, that sure would be helpful. Thanks buddy.

looks like a good ole "rains to ridges" followed by a hard freeze could make quick work of the nastiness. or, once the snows come and shit hits the fan and most folks hide under the covers, those in the know could have a very quiet wasatch all to themselves for quite some time, win. of course if you don't mind low angled bliss which much of the satch is blessed with.

When recently has an avy hit GML/A-lodge?

Not CG. Best not to point them and haul ass in 18" of facets capped with 4" light density. Localized cracking on the high ridge lines

Up to Twin Lakes Pass with our avy class this morning. Loose snow on top of near-surface facets was mainly sluffing with ski cuts and cornice taps, then with sun onto the rocky bits.

A few spots had some wind slab (barely) deposited on the NSFX, it was cracking and moving a bit, but didn't have enough heft to go anywhere.

Lots of rocks out there in the world. Tons of stuff to look at, talk about, snow-geek wise, but I will be happy to head back to the Tetons and out of smog-ville down canyon on Saturday. Great hospitality, though, everyone I have met is very nice, laid back.

I was in the PDog in 2002 and a few years earlier in 1998 or 99 I think when we got hit. The earlier one knocked out the power for a few days. That was sporting. The suite on the ground floor east side always gets clobbered, filled to the ceiling. There were some cars just flattened and up by the second floor windows.
They evac everyone to the safe side of the building before that shot gets fired.

let's stop talking about weather forecasts for long term plans cause that shit NEVER pans out! weather forecasters can barely get a 24 hr prediction correct, what makes you think they can predict the weather 3 months out? where is this huge snow year every one was talking about in september and october??? la nina, more like la leana!

as sweet as that long term outlook is they haven't been able to forecast 4 days ahead this season with accuracy.

It's been a very strange La Nina pattern. Observed conditions are more comparable with an ENSO neutral state. Or at least that's what the data I've looked at shows. Analog years do show a strong second half however.
Of course that doesn't really mean that much. However, i think the reasonable weather forecasters weren't looking forward to December in Utah.
Those CPC maps are also useless by the way. It shows a chance of abnormal values witout out quantifying the exceedence.

Forecast calls for generally dry condotions for UT as a low cuts off down in So. Cal. for the next week or so.

Normally I'd be too busy skiing to worry about long term predictions, but I'm getting tired of going to the gym and watching facets grow...

Flowtron is exactly right - It was 1998. I was living in Drunk Alley at the P-dog at the time. The eastern suite was clobbered along with Craig's ski shop. Emp cars were pushed up against the 2nd floor windows. Peruvian went into extreme interlodge where the entire east wing and the "fort" are evacuated. Remarkablly no one was injured and the Peruvian was able to repair the property damage.

also ever wonder why the P-dog east wing is shorter than the west wing. If you look at old photo's like from the 70's you'll see a much longer east wing. Toledo bowl has made the P-dog shorter over the years.

I also remember when Helgate condo's got slammed along with the fire ( not the same year as the avalanche) that burned part of the lodge. 1998 was also the year lifeflight slammed into Dromadory Peak killing everyone.

After three weeks of steady snows and winds, all the gulches from Michigan-Utah to Tanner's Flat slid at the same time, with a total crown line distance of four miles.
