UDOT will be acquiring new artillery data in mid Little Cottonwood Canyon tomorrow, 11/09/11. The highway will have intermittent closures between the top of Seven Turns and Snowbird Entry 1 from 1100 to 1300. Please stay clear of the North side of the canyon between Maybird and Superior during that time tomorrow.
Thanks, Brad

Thanks for the heads up!
Well today was pretty damn good.
It definitely helped to ski on the slightly more northern aspects of the scree aprons.
Nice soft turns were had, and besides the sluff that I set off on the first turn (as seen in the first photo), no other signs of instability were noticed by myself.

barely missed you man, that's my buddy brad you snapped a shot of. first "real" turns i've had this year, nice bouncy consolidated snow. found some pretty stout, slippery layers underneath the new snow, almost felt like some little pushalanches were gonna get going but they never really took off. interested to see what happens when we get a big load on this stuff.

What's going on this morning in LCC. ^^Brad Davis says that LCC is getting bobmbed at 11am today. I just called the UAC hotline and It says that the date is Nov. 12 and said nothing about bombing lcc. Just made it up LCC now and looked at the UAC site and now it looks like there gona bomb at 630. From the uac site "Avoid all slopes above hwy

Tomorrow November 10th, Little Cottonwood Canyon will close at Gate B at 0630. UDOT will be conducting artillery data acquisition again in the mid-canyon, and sighting artillery in the upper canyon. Stay clear of North side avalanche paths from 0630 until 0845. Interlodge restrictions will be in place at Alta during this time; this means no skiing at Alta/ Snowbird during this period.
Thanks,
Bradley Davis.

I poked around the upper parts of Silver Fork this morning. There is about a 65cm base on N aspects around 10k. Did a few quick CT's pulling out at CT16 Q1 and CT18 Q1 on the weak old snow from October.

That was us. We were all up top when another skier stopped about 35 feet downhill of us and dropped in before us. Snow seemed stable enough up top and when I dropped in I triggered a small one. About 10-12 feet across and 12-14" deep. It slid with with for about 40 vertical feet before slowing.
Jason dropped in last and triggered the release. It broke about 100'+ across and 14" or so inches deep. It carried all the way down to the flats in the Eagles Nest area. Jason was able to ski out of it but it was pretty impressive to see.
Be careful out there!!
