It will feature famous Cincinnatian George Remus, probably the biggest bootlegger of all time. Dude made $600 [U]MILLION[U] in one year, owned the distilleries, the pharmacies that they sold to, and the trucks they moved the booze on (that he stole from).
Even bribed a member of the Harding Administration to avoid prosecution.
Then... he shot his wife in the park after she shacked up with the FBI agent tailing him and had him sent to jail for some time.
Fascinating dude. Can't wait to see it.I still call it The Jake.

Ken Burns hits another Home Run and Peter Coyote's voice is just awesome as the Narrator.
It's amazing how Puritan thinking could have done so much damage to pockets of society. Prohibit something people enjoy and it becomes a bigger problem.
Great lesson was learned right ? So why is marijuana still PROHIBITED ! Oh yeah its a "gateway drug"
BTW it not just my opinion it's a fact, that The Civil War by Ken Burns is the best Doc Series ever created. EVER !!!!

Can't argue with this, except to say Baseball was not that far off the mark either for best ever IMO. Which is interesting cause now I gotta decide between watching Prohibition or the Yankees v. Tigers tonight (gotta watch the home town hero Justin Verlander beat the Yanks)

A Nation of Drunkards, indeed
each man consumed an average of ~88 bottles of booze per year
.....those were the days (nobody can remember)
That hatchet bitch with the Women's Temperance movement was the devil !

Found it hilarious that even though it was illegal to drink cocktails in the US during prohibition, we were the worlds largest importer of cocktail shakers.
Decent people shouldn't live here...they'd be happier somewhere else.

Stumbled upon this while battling a fucking terrible cold this week. Brilliant stuff. All the backstories and politics that went into Prohibition was fascinating. The whole deal about linking Nazis and beer together was crazy. The mob bosses meeting in Atlantic City to divide up the country via the Fed Reserve grid was genius and quite interesting. Good stuff.

Very cool to see how native nutjub cum gajillionaire George Remus was portrayed. Just as crazy and interesting as I pictured it.
Fascinating documentary. What an amazing country we live in in that we're still only so many generations removed from history like this.I still call it The Jake.
