Every time a private insurer raises its rates, people drop coverage. My brother did recently. After paying a private insurer for 15 years he had to drop hios own coverage so he could continue his wife's. When these people get sick or injured they show up at the county hospital ER and guess who pays for that?

The leading cause of personal bankruptcies in this country right now is health care costs.
For-profit health insurance is inhumane and to speak of any sort of "free market" for a service that every human will need at multiple points in their life is ludicrous.

Of course what the right wing hate machine really wants is a surplus of sickly and poorly educated people in the labor pool. It keeps their labor costs down and the workers are more docile.
