thanks for posting this TH
not sure how effective these online petitions really are but every thing helps right?
that's the spirit SFB!
after getting fucked over by solitude, you'd think you'd learn to take a stand, but alas, you just continue to get bent over.
I wonder if you'll change your mind when ski utah kicks you to the curb and that silver pass goes bye bye..........
its not wrong to stand up to corporations.
its not wrong to be passionate about something.
its not wrong to care about the environment.
its not wrong to care about your water source.
its not wrong to want to protect your public lands so future generations can enjoy them for years to come.
it is wrong to turn a blind eye to political corruption and corporate greed.

Hopefully you aren't planning on going to public places like 9990 as it is now almost impossible to access and completely tracked up by resort overflow, just as all of the upper northern side of BCC will be if Talisker has it tram-like ways. Sure, you can either buy a $96 pass (if so, why waste your time hiking?), or drive all the way around to Mill Creek, then spend a few hours hiking up the backside so you can duke it out with all of the resort crowd.

Now that I have this little guy in my life, the sheep pen suddenly became far more appealing and valuable due to time restraints he places on my life. Not only that, but all the meadow skipping below the proposed tram is ideal kid touring/safe terrain as it is.
The days of leaving the pen to ski Nebo, at least for me, are now once a week, versus four days a week. I think I'm not alone in the idea that time is limited, and the easy access touring terrain we all get so worked up about is worth fighting for.

I don't buy passes.
I do things to get them free.
I don't put my $$$$ in resort owners pockets
So why didn't you leave this on your blog
$$$$$???????
and I never said it's not worth fighting for just that either way I plan on skiing it till the Mrs. lets us move to AK

Smoke first, ask questions later, eh Carmen?

But yes, the information is on my self centered pimp ass blog, although I rewrote it (aka "took it down") out of deference to my past history and tenuous friendship with Ted Wilson (also detailed on my SCPAB). Ted considered it a personal attack that I'd associated him with the Talisker family, so I removed the post knowing full well that it would be recovered (nice one Brutha).
But don't you worry my WASATCH POWDER SKIS friend - voicing my opinions has had a financial impact on me. I wrote an article on the 9990 backcountry access for a magazine about eight years ago and was put on the "Press Pass" list for complimentary passes, which much to my amazement, they kept rolling over year after year. So, like you, I was "doing things" to get free passes, but unlike yourself, I thought the Canyons sucked dog ass and seldom if ever went there, so when the pass didn't show up this season after I started spouting off about Talisker, I wasn't too surprised. Or disappointed. Free shitty skiing is still shitty skiing.
There have been other financial ramifications as well, but honestly, I think protecting the environment we ski in transcends any free gear opportunities. If I was an athlete manager, I'd require people to support three good causes and speak out against one bad one. Maybe you can start such a program with WPS?

sure the jimmie huega can do program for people with ms
intermountain therapy animals "promoting The human animal bond"
and
project healing waters for returning veterans of war to promote flyfishing as a way of dealing with the effects of being a vfw and ptsd.
Are three I'm pretty well involved in and I can only make wps suggestions but "CAN DO" as I please with my time
The one I spend more time against is the UT political clusterfuck that is HB280 and securing access to our waterways to the high water mark is way more important to me than No lifts or ski resorrt expansions in the wasatch plenty of lands to ski much more limited waterways
You still fly fishin? addicted yet???? careful powerful drug them tuggin fishes are
Dont think my not so "free" agent call em as I see em views don't cause me waves financial or other wise.
but without waves there is no surf
carry on and though I may e-tease you you haz my respect tough dancin on the line of how you feel vrs. how the notes get paid or gear ends up on the feet.
Just as 10 years workin for MG allows me to respect him despite his silly company line and the bullshit their peddlin
So whats your 3 and one against?
ps spent a week on the middle fork of salmon with someone who described himself as one of Romans best friends sad but enlightening

The first sentence in this quote is making my hernia repair really hurt from laughing. Thanks.....
The last paragraph is so spot on I can't believe it isn't mandatory. How many Facebook Friends "Like" Solitude, yet decry their actions? Perhaps Backcountry.com should speak out for the backcountry? Or grow some balls, like Peter Metcalf at Black Diamond.

I congratulate those who stand up for our public lands and calling it like it truly is. If you want to make a difference, please sign the petition http://www.change.org/petitions/us-c...rea-developers (TH mentioned above) and also make a phone call. Like some of you, I have called the Utah representatives, but they may not listen too well. To stop HR 3452, we want to try and keep it in committee...not to get out for a vote.
If you oppose SkiLink, the best single feedback vehicle may be to call the Subcomittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands. You can provide your polite and constructive feedback at 202-226-7736. The people there will listen and the comment period is now on HR 3452.
Food for thought is Canyons (Talisker) watershed decimation in East Canyon stream, ski resort expansion off the ridgeline given exit gates at 9990 lift with a return gondola (several thousand acres taken from Backcountry users if this happens), impairment of viewshed and summer usage on the Crest trail, precendent this eminent domain type siezure of public lands would set in the central Wasatch and beyond, sale to a foreign entity, the fact it is not a real transportation solution, plowing Guardsman is a better option to consider. Plenty of reasons to object and I'm sure you all have some better ones of your own.Last edited by Nolink; 12-07-2011 at 03:44 PM.

HR 3452
Props to people like you guys who stand up for public land and non-liftserved BC. In the coming years we are going to have to fight to keep it and the eminent domain precedent HR 3452 would set is dangerous to the central Wasatch.
If you oppose HR 3452 SkiLink the best single feedback vehicle may be to call the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands. You can provide your polite and constructive feedback at 202-226-7736. Best case is that this proposal never leaves committee.

Kia, is a nice guy, former co-worker of mine. He is just your typical PC person, waaay to pro-development. He, Like some of my other friends, probably are for it from a marketing standpoint, and have'nt considering the ramifications. That's why we're here to edumacate them. ;-)

this is the biggest reason to be against this....... if HR 3452 and S.1883 pass it will be the catalyst for a massive land grab in the Wasatch. Essentially you can kiss the sheep pen goodbye.
thanks for this phone number, i have someone new to call tomorrow!

Governor Gary Herbert
http://www.utah.gov/governor/contact/index.html
Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands.

HR3452 has been sent to committee, this might be the best place to call. encourage them not to earmark it to another bill and just let it die.
FYI bills need to sit in committee for 2 years before they die.
Change.org petition you should sign
