Car lap and bbq season is on at Artist Point. Snow was decently sun cupped, but nothing the weekend crowd can't smooth out. Pretty fun to be able to get hike free turns after work in July. Some photos from yesterday:

Lots of snow in the parking lot:

    Grandma's was still in:

    Blueberry Chutes were fat:

After 4 laps it was time to bbq dinner and enjoy the sunset:

I toured around Coleman Pinnacle today... There is still tons of snow up at Baker.. the suncups sucked bad in the morning on northish aspects, but the southern sides in the afternoon were nice and creamy!

Gotta keep the PNW thread on page one for summer. Great skiing out on Ruth Mountain this past Sunday, with plenty of snow left to ski into the valley:

We went up to Adams to ski the SW Chutes on Saturday (8/4). The Chutes were runneled and suncupped worse than what I've experienced before. The best parts were lower down. We were able to ski on avalance remnants to within a few hundred feet of the RTM trail, though, which was nice.

Topping out on Suklsdorf ridge next to the Glissade trench

Summit pitch was unappealing, so we decided to skip it...

Looking back from the RTM trail. Chutes looked better than they skied.

Snow conditions were still okay a few days earlier on the prior Monday & Tuesday, but I can see how all that continued baking would take its toll.
Apologies for not referencing my own thread earlier in this one, but a bit too late, here it is:

^^ Love the aerial volcano shot, Jonathan!

The Winthrop Glacier on Rainier was stellar just two days ago (August 4th, WTF?). PNW FTW! And just to throw in a couple more acronyms, BTW, Kyle Miller is not the only one who gets naked at 14,411. But we don't want to make this thread truly NSFW, now, do we?

Skied Mt. Daniel on Saturday; continuous snow from just below the East summit to Peggy's Ponds. Awesome conditions for August, with almost no suncups and soft, rippable snow. Should be good for another week (max); get there early as it was just about perfect when I dropped in at 9:45 AM. Was solo so only scenics:

Way to hit it. Luv Mt. Daniel. Way less snow than when Randy and I did the Lynch Glacier loop a month ago.

Set aside the ice axe and hard hat for a day to join Brad for his birthday August turns on Muir snowfield. Typical Camp Muir pigsty shit show. Got up there an hour plus ahead of my buds. Red blood cell count is up after last week's high route. Bumpy and kinda awful off the top but smoother down low. 3,000 ski verts on an August day tour aint bad. Fun day. Got home late. Packing today for another high route starting next Saturday.

I braved the sun cups up on Ptarmigan Ridge yesterday..

Its melting out fast, but there are still some good sized patches of bone jaring suncups that are easy to get to!

Skiing in August, can't really complain, too much!

A friend and I skied the Squak Glacier yesterday (8/25). For a >5k descent, the snow quality didn't vary much. It was all okay, none of it great or terrible. Mtngirl's right, can't complain...except I did, vociferously. I can't wait for it to start snowing again!

I skied Sholes Glacier up at Baker today.. it was nice, corn like, with minimal suncup torture.

More interestingly, I skied with a dentist!! For some reason, I find that really amusing..

Squak Glacier yesterday with Andy. 2000' verts of hero snow, including some turns between crevasses. No suncups! Found a nice tongue of snow to ski down to 5100', 5 minutes above the main trail. Plenty of good September turns up there.
