Camping in one of the 2 trailheads north of baker tomorrow night. We'll have a couple skiers and some riders, probably 5 in total. Change for a nickel buys you a smile and a gesture of good will. Say hi.

Hi everyone. Transplant from Bridger Bowl spending my first season out here. Totally stoked to explore some new mountains! Hopefully I can provide some stoke from time to time.
Went up to Muir for the first time last Saturday:
The babe GF:
Cheers.
I'd be thrilled to go skiing with anyone willing!

Nice.... for future reference...the chute about 0.5" to the left of your GF head that is partly in the shade is called the Nisqually Chute. When in condition it is one of the best descents around and at certain times of the year you can ski all the way down the chute onto the glacier then down to its terminus and to the bridge. About a 5000 ft descent. Tour to 8300 Elev on Muir, hard left...that's the entrance.... enjoy the PNW.

I have a feeling that a certain resort may be opening in the next few days!

Great weather and snow to be had today. It's pretty hard to beat sunny fall pow. A couple stills from today's action:

Snow at base of Xtal today was maybe 2 inches deep in places. Not quite the top of your sneakers. JK's view about Thursday opening over a beer on Friday night... "I very much doubt it"
Chinook Pass still very thin cover not even close to anything being ski-able up there yet.

Our original plan was to drive up the Cougar Divide road till we hit snow, skin to the ridge and find a campsite. The next morning we would head towards Chowder Ridge and Hadley Peak to ski shaded north aspects with remnant snow from last season. A 2pm call to the Forest Service in glacier revealed that the road up to Cougar Divide might still be unlocked even after the November 1st seasonal closure, and they were unsure if they had locked it already. It was the start of their weekend and said if it was unlocked they would not lock it for the weekend. We arrived there just shy of 5p.m. to a locked gate and a change in plans. Back past Chair 9 to the Skyline Divide trailhead and a change in objectives.
At the trailhead as dusk settles upon the valley above glacier
Starting up the trail as dark quickly approaches
As we arrived at the divide, the last glimpses of sunlit fog was transitioning to eerily moonlit freezing mist. Camp was set up and a few nightlaps were taken down from camp.
We awoke before the suns salmon early morning light hit the top of Mt. Baker. Frozen shells and frosty snowboard boots were dawned and breakfast was made.
Camp on the Skyline Divide
The first hints of light over Shuksan and Ptarmigan ridge and Baker
As we set off the sky was on fire
The first direct sunlight after a few laps in the bowl
Someone put in some ambitious lines the day before us
With two of our five members having issues with their skins, bootable, mellow pow turns would become the objective for the day
On the way back, some of us decided to tune skis and boards with natures stonegrinder
Returning to the car in time to catch dinner at a decent hour
