North Conway, yuck, don't stay there!
If you want romantic to impress, stay in Jackson, like rog suggested. It's a beautiful little village to explore. If there's no room at the Inn at Thorn Hill, here are a couple others to consider:

Hope you can find a lovely place to stay.

Looks like the auto road is opening up as far as treeline this weekend, anyone know where that would be along the route and what the slacker possibilities will look like from there?

^ A partial opening (to treeline) is worthless for skiing.
Here are full opening dates for recent year:
2011: May 15
2010: May 17
2009: May 16
2008: May 24 (late-morning opening that day)
2007: May 25 (poor coverage with strange distribution: NE snowfield gone, and max vert was M-i-L @ ~350')
2006: May 27
2005: May 30 (open to coaches only, with Airforce drop-off allowed)
2004: May 14 (very poor coverage)For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. (For other avalanche course providers anywhere, feel free to use any of my "homework" assignments for your own courses too.)

JS and other time chronicling roadies, after opening up to treeline how long do you think it will take them to get it to the top assuming good weather, a week or so? I'd like to get there while there are still scraps left, without temps hitting freezing overnight it's going to go so quickly. Crossing my fingers that I'll be able to drive up next Wednesday or Thursday. If so, anyone around for a midweek George day? And how them gullies looking lately, hope they're still steep!
I'd kill for another day on MIL, not going to happen this year.

that picture of NJFS was from three weeks later in the season, 2010.
RIP MCA......I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

With "good weather" = hot, dry, sunny weather, sure, that's about right.
The key though is that "bad" weather melting our snow does not necessary equal "good" weather for making progress on opening the road: they need to get the frozen culverts opened up, as well as deal with any road repairs. (Some of the road website's blog entries have provided interesting details for those with civil engineering tendencies.) So wet weather that eats away at our snow can still keep the culverts frozen up high -- that kind of pattern is what explains road openings that have delivered us to pretty poor skiing options. For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. Got on the river for the first time this year. had a nice LONG swim on the second rapid. Lost my drain plug. Overall, good time.
Working 4-midnight, getting up at 6 for my first guiding trip of the season, back at the hotel for another 4-midnight, mommy's birthday, and then finals week. and then SUMMER! giddyup!

From the Ski Mad World blog... Title of the thread says it all.
Mont St-Sauveur saves the ‘May’ and is last to spin again – Eastern Closing Thread Part 9
http://madpatski.wordpress.com/2012/...thread-part-9/
MSS is again last to spin and makes it to May.
Need to return to MTL, so heading from Ottawa to Montreal only add an extra hour. Plus free skiing with my season pass from a Ottawa local owned by MSSI. Not sure when or if I'll detour...I didn't last weekend even if I went down to MTL.Ski Mad World

I didn't say that was from my MIL. LOL
If you've been married for a number of years and continue with your addiction, you'll eventually hear some of these. First hand, but most of the time second hand from people talking to your wife. From the MIL, to your mother (I've heard a few from my late-mom and she was a skier, wife's friends or colleagues).

Hmmm...Could be. I woulda been wearing a fuschia/magenta/pink (whatevah ya want to call it) Patagucci jacket, letting my inner girly-girl finally shine through. (Anyone who knows me was surprised to see me in "pink" this year. It was the only color I could get but it turns out it's "my color"!)

We're really looking forward to next season since our new house will no longer take 110% of our time and we will actually be able to SKI again (this winter sucked, not because of the lack of snow but because we hardly skied
). By the way, speaking of our new house, it's a passive solar house and this winter (Dec. - May) we used a whopping 60 gallons of propane to heat our house, hot water, etc. I guess you could say the theory worked in practice. We also passed the Energy Star blower test with flying colors last Thursday.

early june 2005 and 2008 were VERY good in the easties.
here's june 1st 2005, skied all morning then drove back to east burke (owned a house there at the time) for the wednesday night east burke sports mtb ride. folks were stunned that i had skied that day before the ride. the snow and cover was unreal. my gf and i were the only ones up there.

Oh yes, great memories!
So let's see, June 1, 2005, only a strip was left for about 10 turns per run.
In Massachusetts, at Wachusett!
Three days later, Airplane was completely in. (Although that one guy almost died when he somehow augured in while skiing Turkey Chute.)
August 18, I did the running race and then skied Tux, although I don't remember if anything was left of the NE Snowfield. (At least one year when I did the race, it was still hanging in there.)
May 29, 2008, we could still tour back and forth, zig zagging up and down and along the NE Snowfield, East Snowfield, and SE Snowfield.
June 13, Left Gully was still almost full length.
June 21, after the running race, the floor of Tux was still completely in, so something like 500' still left.
Both those season finished up with nice skiing out West in August, so definitely some sort of bicoastal goodness going on those years! For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course.
