VWs can be so finicky. My brother basically can't drive his on cold days. He's got one of those diesel jettas.. Twas a good weekend to b stranded at Smuggs tho! A few years back my buddy lost his keys in the woods, took a few days to get new ones made, luckily it was snowing

Nice. I haven't used this one with the wife before. Thanks for that! For the right storm next year I'd even actually have the xtra set made and pay for them. I like it.

The funny part was that my buddys wife was with him,and she was pretty pissed (shes a teacher), but they got an extra thundersnow day in. Snow was so heavy they couldn't handle the untracked snow and had to follow my tracks all day. Now they both have rocker/hybrid setups. Still was a super fun weekend, and a great excuse!

Notch Rd is open and my wife has been saying, your done right? Hopefully she's wrong... would love to head to slackfest on MW if thats an option for a few more...[/QUOTE]

My wife said the same as she saw the report on the news, much to her dismay I've said at least 5 times in the last month, "this will probably be my last day", luckily this hasn't been the case yet. Trying to find a window to get there also before it's too late, hoping for a day next week where I can make it happen.

I think we met in the lot at the end of the day Saturday but maybe it wasn't you because I would have remembered if you had the jet, I definitely have to check one out next year.

Love the vibe at smuggs, this was my 5th season with a pass and I have continued to meet a handful of new people to ride and explore with every season and have made some great friends out of complete strangers. Not that that certainly doesn't happen elsewhere, but of all the other resorts I ride and thoroughly enjoy the hell out of up here, smuggs to me has the most laid back attitude and a terrain mix that never gets old...and of course, easy access to the playground that is the notch doesn't hurt either.

Bucket - Weather isn't looking promising for the weekend but we know that could easily change. Saturday might be tough for me but Sunday holds some promise as of now.

^^ VtColdSmoke : yea, was gonna make the best of it if i'd gotten stranded but was good to get back on the road and not spend week w/car hassles - especially since there would be another storm to chase a few days later - this time in southern VT.

Dutchman : cool will stay in touch. depends upon weather and whether i can ski the rain closer to home...hopefully this weekend won't be the finale for jay!

you could tell your wife you plan to get turns well into may. leave it fuzzy, and if you (or the snowpack) quit before may's out, you'll look like a thoughtful sort of hero

that's so awesome. i had actually NOT seen that video, but I DID see them filming that last fall when they set up the dolly cam. we were hanging out at a vantage point high above them, and i saw what looked like a bird flying back and forth up and down the notch road... then i saw that the bird was actually an electronic device... and then i saw that there were some crazy dudes shredding 10sk8 HARD

Thanks for the vid! I have actually been trying to find it all winter. They did a ridiculous job with that... so GOOD... and those guys and gals are friggin LEGIT. Those are some sketchy high speed slides they're throwing down amidst those boulders. I hope to be half that good someday...

in other news... Full TR on spring-so-far is up on FIS

thanks for the editing stoked to get you out next season dude! I was thinking I shoulda called you this weekend when I was down that way, next time, the cape makes me want to move to the beach.

VTCS- That is some awesome bindingless stoke, super ballsy. I would like to get out with you and see that in action.

Drew- great write up and inspiring shots, wish I could have made it out with you guys last weekend. Worth the down hiking for conditions like that.

Neufox- that skiing looked incredible, looks like you guys nailed some solid conditions. Lets see some more of that.

I agree on smuggs, after a few seasons of coming up to ski with friends and then being a pass holder this year, I can say the place is special, big terrain and mountain where everyone knows each other and is super firiendly. Cant say enough about the place. Glad I am here to ski for a while.

Thanks TC. We'll meet up one of these days. I'll get into this more in Part II, but instead of hiking down we ended up circumnavigating MTW and heading down Monroe....which turned out to be an ORDEAL.

It was quite a day. Left my house at 5am didn't get home till 9pm...

TC - I've set a goal for myself to help grow the sport (powsurfing/snowskating) in VT. Hoping we get another spring dump so I can take it out again! Eventually I hope to be dawn patrolling w/ one on pow days, and really want to get it in the trees. Conditions have to be just right tho, and I want a slightly longer fishier shape like the boards from Grassroots in UT.

Smuggs is the $hit, I always opt for the bash badge, think I bought 2 passes this year. Pete got hooked up w/ a bunch of tickets this year for helping w/ social media promo so I reaped the benefits of that
Had a few days where I got there early enough to 'sample the conditions' and spent the rest of the day in the notch. Stoked to ride with more Smuggs enthusiasts/mags next year! (or maybe this spring) All in all even though the snow was a bit lacking, this was a blessed year for me for sure (and it's not over)!

I'll be the guy with the wooden snowboard or no bindings

Greg - Stoked you finally got to see that video. Very well done indeed. Those guys are crazy IMO!! The zipline is off the snap. Need to setup one of those down HB in the winter, lol. Would be sick...

Anyone have beta on Killington closure? I'm planning a hike for next friday and weighing options. If Killington is closed would be a good option. Ony thing i can see on the web is that they're down to about 6 trails.
I demoed the TECH TALK JONG! pro model this spring and their performance was unparalleled which is good because I ski in a wedge most of the time - bendtheski, 2011

K is open until thus upcoming Sunday, but then they're not promising anything past this weekend... but they're making some noises like they want to be the last one standing. i can see them going for another full weekend. Superstar is wall to wall (albeit with a pretty gnarly downclimb at the top of the headwall)

i think a better place where u could get some time to actually set it up and do it properly would be some farmfield in Northern VT... hmm... TC?

I'm looking forward to expanding my terrain options as well . . . I'll be early season practicing at Blue Hills so I'm not a complete burden when I venture up north. Definitely give me a call next time you're down.

Hope you got written permission to repost this here? Wouldn't want to upset anyone at FIS.

    Still a great shot.

And yes I was stirring the pot and trust me it's deserved.

rude - safe and fun trip to the Gaspe. Enjoy.

Thanks dood! As Lynch said, if in doubt about posting a photo/text/wx report from FIS around the intertoobz, please link to FIS when so doing. It helps us out A LOT. So thanks for editing.

I asked Lynch to do that once a while back when he lifted a shot from FIS without linking, and he got upset (that's the reference I think).

Have a great trip! Take lots of pics!

Right, so take it down. That was the issue . . . and the way you chose to handle it.

sending you a private polite request to link instead of hard copy and paste was an issue? here we go again...

VTCS- that would be cool to see, what are you using for friction to keep you on the board?

    Drew- look forward to it.

Biff- I will be back down in May.

LD- this is not the Great Gulf, I dont think anyone is fighting over those lines, they are about 5 turns long into schwack. Makes for nice shots though, for real. (edit: i thought you were talking about the GG incident where you were stealing all the lines )

GP- not sure what you are talking about, but you guys can skate in front of my house any time, you do dont even need permission

He didn't link to FIS. I sent him an EXTREMELY polite and respectful private message requesting that he link rather than copy and paste. At that time if we wanted to be posting in the ECRC... we would have been. Didn't feel welcome back then though, so we were steering clear. Apparently he is still upset.

You were so well behaved upon return from FIS' self imposed exile from the ECRC. What happened? Maybe it's time to consider a summer hiatus (or longer!) as well.

No. I'm done after this. I'm done just enjoying the sillingness / need for the pm's and the hypocrisy of it - namely, that therudeness' post of your pic is still up and probably would have been had I not noted it. Too tempting . . . but like I said I am done now. Back to skate surfing . . .

GP- I edited, for some reason I added a "t" to can, meant to say " can". Of course I dont care where you skate, I think it looks like a lot of fun. Also I was referring to the farm pasture TR link when I said "not sure what you are talking about". I have no clue about this PM situation. What is all this "we" stuff? its just pics, stoke and internet babble, fun stuff to fill in the boring cracks at work. carry on.
