This is an on-going investigation and an updated release will be issued when more information becomes available. Vibes to the family and everyone at MRG.

Well I'm doing about as much as I can to bring the snow. My winter beard (which I'd been forsaking for marital and professional reasons) is coming back strong, but I didn't know if it was enough so I just bought my first ever pair of dedicated hardpack skis. My subconscious believes that I brought this winter upon myself with my optimistic EC purchase of Billy Goats, so maybe this pessimistic purchase will bring things back into balance.

It's days like this when I think I can safely say, I picked the right year to buy some new hockey skates. They are going to be broken in pretty soon with all this time at the rink instead of on the slopes. I was thinking the purchase of these skates would be the event that changed the snow picture but I was wrong.

Are they certain it's skiing related? The wording is funny. Either way, vibes to those affected.

    WCAX Story:

    FAYSTON, Vt. -
Vermont State police are investigating the discovery of a body in the ski school at Mad River Glen.

The man was found stuck in a small interior window between the ski school and a boot room Thursday morning.

Police say they didn't find any signs of forced entry and that the death does not appear suspicious. They are withholding the man's name and age until his family can be notified.

Ski resort spokespeople say they're letting police investigate while they try to focus on work.

"It's shaken up some of the employees. Obviously, it's not every day you come in to work and find a body. But overall, I mean, skiers are out there, they're skiing, enjoying themselves. So we'll carry on. It will be business as usual," said Jamey Wimble, the general manager of Mad River Glen.

The employee who found the body was sent home for the day.

Police would not say if the victim was an employee.

Investigators say an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

A few inches of heavy stuff would make the bumps at Sunapee enjoyable at least. I'll take it.

There was an angry two inches on the ground at Jay this morning. A few more in the blown-in spots. What a day! A rare combination of sun, mild temps, no wind and fresh snow. And NO people! Got third tracks down Can Am, which was beautifully groomed cord with two inches of hero snow on top. Shit-eating-grins for all who partook.

Then I followed some rabbit tracks:

And found the rabbit hole. Down I went...

Still (semi) frozen precip in the CV - it melts when it hits the ground but the mountains should be OK. Might see you tomorrow Mr. Weasel.

Heard it was snowing at a decent clip in the catskills. Thinking about Hunter tomorrow? Should be warm, but warm wet sludge sounds ok. Anyone want to go?

edit to add: warm and wet

.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

Nicely done...No WIND you say, that is a once a season occurrence on it's own but add that to mild temps and I can honestly say I'm a bit envious!

O-Fish-ul bush snow report at 1:30 reported 1" LAST night from mid to summit, there was an immeasurable amount at the base, so 1/4"top of bravo, 5/8" at ripcord/parachute junction, 1" top of rock
No rain or snow till 4:06 when a mist of flakes started falling, you could have read the Sunday Times c2c and passed it to the next person intact at the rate of snowfall. After 4 3/4 hours about 7/16" has fallen. Good news is it is nice and wet and will bond to the ice making for some safer and grippy turns.

    32.4` and misting at 9

An interesting story about the recent skier deaths with ice being the probable cause and helmets only being good to 15mph.

Not really bored, "just the facts". Super sad about AS, got the word from Gamal. Many factors at play here.

Depends on the helmet, actually. This number has to do with the current, pretty weak standards available. Some lids exceed them, such as those designed for racers primarily (think Giro Streif in carbon and kevlar, various composite POC options, etc.). Many run-of-the-mill lids, though, are only designed to the standard. In-mold helmets offer no point-impact protection (e.g. tree branch) and typically single impact only. Often, if you tumble and whack your noggin, you're bouncing away down the pitch, so multi-impact protection is valuable.
