Today was by far my best EC day this season. I got up to stowe this morning right before 8, and it was looking snowy. Had an untracked nosedive woods - I was planning on just skiing some powderouy for my first run with the new worth boards, the big fat Georges, but the woods without a single track looked way too inviting. That was pretty $$. Made it down in time to catch one of the first gondis, and after passing two slowboarders on the traverse (one guy was bobbling around, the other looked super pissed that I basically snaked his first tracks!!), had my way with an untouched canvas in AF!! Holy shit that was good, and with an easy 8-10", there's no way it could not have been good. Pretty much continued to lap AF all day, and I pretty much continued to ski pow all day long. UNREAL! Caught two laps at the end of the day with Bushwacker, one schwacky, another pretty good fun and found myself still skiing fresh at 415 on a saturday. Is this real life?? Best EC day this year for sure!! I went hard bell to bell (ok ok, they do technically open at 730 on the weekends, but... really??) and I'm thrashed. So much fun though!!

And as far as the Georges go, I could go on and on, but I'll just say: holy shit these sticks rock! EMR(?? I talked with you and your buddies on the lift.) if you want more info / wanna figure out how to demo these boards (or any of the others, for that fact), shoot myself or Weasel1 a message. We'd love to get you on 'em. And as I said there are a few pairs (not sure off the top of my head what) at OGX.

Oh and I'm quite pleased so far with the Cochises! Nice to finally have a touring boot, just can't wait to get it out on the skin track woot woot!

Good luck with that. Inbounds is effectively scrapped clean, including some really great glare ice (as my few runs around mid afternoon showed me). If you go far enough out tho, it's still there. I was skiing untouched pow at 415 today


Adddit: Bottle/Weasel: either yous up at the Bowl today? How was it? Pretty torched after going hard all day, but thinking about hitting it up on tues.. Plus, I wanna try the HB.

Bowl got 2-3 inches on top of rink, but where it blew in, it was deep and nice. I was skiing with Little Weasel today, so didn't get to the back side, but I bet the Poma line is on given the aspect.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Georges! They were the first ones I got on when the skis came in, and I REALLY dug 'em! For our demos, OGE has the three big models in 185 right now, as well as a pair of Marcys. I have 178 Georges, 171 DBs, 185 HBs (power/carbon w/small Dukes) and a pair of Marcys. I am picking up the stuff at OGE on Monday, so after that, get in touch with me to get on a pair. We want these on the snow as much as possible, not sitting in my roof box, so get to it, folks!

Little Weasel (2.5 years old) was straight killin' it today. He skied nonstop for 3 hours. If I suggested a break, he looked at me like "seriously?" He was on the harness for the second time (first time was skiing the double at MRG on Tuesday), but is mostly making his own turns. So cool to watch him get into it, as he laughed all the way down the hill.... anyway, no stoke but kid stoke today, but works for me!

love the fact that stowe quoted 3-4 inches today! right.....

good skiing all day with a group of ripping trouble making kids. To have them vent off energy I was having them do pro call outs to other coaches and going up to people with go pros and telling them that they were indeed the best skiers on the mountain. Some dude did not believe them and he got owned trying to follow them though Goat woods.

GNAr is uncool unless its an 8 years calling you out, at what point it really funny.

Skinned the cog solo at 8:30 this morning. It was snowing heavy from the time I drove through Franconia Notch all the way to the cog base. I only went as far as the top of Jacobs Ladder. From there back down to where the trail re-joins the rails it was boot top deep and super light. Then from there to the water tower it was first two buckles deep on top of hard crust (but still really nice turns). From the water tower to the bottom it was the same, but over thinner crust and some rocks, etc.

just checked forecast for tomorrow. wicked fucking windy with summit fog and crap returning maybe. temps will be nice, but with much of the lower skiing as it is, probably not worth the gas money to venture up that way. today woulda been the better day afterall. if my GF wasn't so wonderful i'da maybe pulled a switcheroo while she sleeps right now and headed up. took almost 40 years to finally be able to put someone else 1st. feels so good to just let go.................................. the mountain bike and dry/dusty trail it will be. that certainly doesn't suck.

if anything changes i'll let you know.

News like that always knocks the wind out of me, and makes you realize our mortality. Enjoy it while you can, men (and women).

Not enjoying bad news about death of skier. Man made trails at the bush are about 30-45 % sheet water ice covered with a bit of groomer till from the areas that are tillable. No refreshing of surface and several rain events do not make for a good edgable product.

1 15/16" yesterday = ok for first hour or so, low angle woods are still meh with a slick rain crust and about 2 3/16" coverage. The wonderful sunlight yesterday [and today] sublimated about 9/16" off yesterday. Now that Thin Cover has left for Japan maybe the snow can spread south next time and give us 12-14" of goodness.

Going to tour some west facing terrain today to get some exersize and scope things out.

Edit for not quite T-O-P music, for the lost skier at the bush. This was played at a friends funeral who drowned after suffering a heart attack from a genetic defect the day after the Rsd Rocks reggae fest in S. burlington, I'll never forget Charlie.

That is terrible sorry to hear that. I bringing two helmets to Japan, can't screw around with those. Rog stick that pom Pom on a helmet dude!

Groomers at Sunapee are the same. Going off the edge is sure to f**k someone up. Makes for a nerve-racking experience skiing with the little kids.

I'm think I'm sticking to nordic skiing until we get some snow here. I'll teach the JISPers on Tuesdays but other than that, kick and glide and skating seem a whole lot safer right now!

Hopefully my trip to UT, starting tomorrow, will mean some new cover for VT while I'm away.

For you splitters out there, what do you use? Factory split or custom? Moving out west when I'm done school and want to get into splitting, but don't have too much information on it.

Vibes to friends and family of the skier who died, really sad to hear. Since my headfirst backward tomahawk over the lunch rocks at Tucks when I was in college, I have decided never to ski without a helmet. That day I was fortunate. My pack slipped up behind my head and saved me from serious injury. It suffered some pretty impressive damage, right where my head had been. In the time I have been wearing helmets, I have replacced two from serious damage. Neither was a result of a fall I took. In both cases, I was hit by someone else. I won't ski without a lid now, and there isn't any excuse I can see not to. Be safe out there everyone!

Always sad to hear someone passing away by hitting a tree, not clear from the Freepress story exactly what happened.. In bounds woods were very fast yesterday, very sketchy near the drainages and windblown areas were hardly edge-able. That being said there are lots of pockets of good snow if you know where to find them..

I don't know much about split boards. But high anxiety has some spark bindings for sale, so there's a start, pm him he said.

From what I've seen, if you have the money and know what kind of board you want to get, get a factory split. If you have the time, tools, know-how, and a board you'd like to cut in half, do it up!

Finally got the little one out on the hill today. A quick warm up on the magic carpet and she was asking for the lift. Now if I could get her to turn and watch where she's going. I can see where her love of letting them run comes from, now that I think of it I know where the attention span comes from too.

If you've got a board you'd like to split and are good with tools then you probably won't be disappointed with a DIY split. I split an old board of mine last season just to give it a shot and it rides fairly well for the fact that I didn't do the greatest job making it. In deep snow I don't notice the shortcomings of mine (I'm also riding the Voile plates with some regular bindings on top which makes a big difference as well). Just recently picked up a Jones split as I've been wanting something that I can really trust when the snow is firm or really choppy, but have yet to ride it. Still need to pick up some Spark Burners.

Some advice:
1. Split a stiff board as it's going to become much softer after you cut it.
2. Measure twice, cut once.
3. Cut it down the middle in one go, don't start from both ends and hope it lines up in the middle.
4. Ditch the Voile plates and get splitboard bindings.
5. Splitboard.com has all of the information you could ever want to discover and more about splitboarding.

Those bindings HA is selling are a really good deal as well, worth jumping on that deal if you're planning on getting into splitting.

Power Play Sports in Morrisville will make split boards for you. Nice guys to work with. They also sell skins for splitters.
