You see ML, the difference in our experiences is due primarily to the fact that, at my tonnage, I'm quite literally twice the man you are..... ;-)
Sweet pics! Any of Aaron coming down that drop come out okay?
eug, freakin' outstanding shots dude, looks sweet!
Love that follow cam HA & TC, looking forward to more from Japan. AK, sounds like we had a strangely similar experience...yours with the hats, mine with the skis. I hope this isn't a trend."I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."- Alan Greenspan

culture shock
hey y'all
just got back after 9 days and many, many surf sessions from the pacific to the caribbean, back to the pacific side of costa rica chasing swell. saw lots of cool stuff along the way and surfed some pretty heavy water (caribbean side) and enjoyed smaller consistant pacific surf. as suspected, didn't find any spots as good as back here in nh, but the consistency, warm water, and weather was a nice reprieve from the winter we're having here.
definitely good to get outta town for a bit. my arms are cooked.
maybe high george sunday with an inch here/there.

Sweet! I see you also got some Cochises. I think you'll like them - I'm pretty happy with mine so far and I know TC likes his. Depending on your foot volume, you might have to take up some room here and there.
This weekend looks like a good weekend to replace the front axles on my car and watch some football. Have fun on the ice, whoever heads up North to try to ski.

Dog is tweaking, so I'm headed up to Baileys. See you there if you're game. Or buzz me if you're lift-lapping.

sweet Rog, were you in puerto viejo on the carribean side? My favorite spot in central america for sure. They are known for that big surf break Salsa Brava, figured thats where you were. Such a difference from pacific to carribean side. Built up touron craziness pacific to mellow rasta, buy weed and a pipe right on the street carribean. lets see some pics? did you rent bikes and peddle down to manzanillo? cool border town.

working on it

here's a classic one for y'all. just had a customer come in that had purchased a kona hei hei 29er here for wicked cheap while i was away (all sorts of weird shit goes down while i'm away) he walks up to me with a fucking greenfield kickstand and asks me to put it on the kona.
when i told him "no, ain't happenin", he was so confused. then he asked about putting a sussy seatpost on his new full sussy 29er
he is a foreigner. NTTAWWT. speaking of foreigners. whattup with no americans in newark nj? i swear costa rica was more american than newark. no one spoke english in newark airport. unreal.
so refreshing to see simple ole singlespeed beach cruizers as the bike of choice in CR. bikes here are frickin silly.

^^ ........no! They're mine!

Can't wait to tour with real touring boots, been going at it hard with alpine boots for the last 2 years or so, and while that's quite do-able, I think that this will really blow my world apart.

anyone have any info about mountaineering race in the MRV on sunday?
it is really mountaineering, or can it be done with plain old skis and skins? (rugged touring?)

Yeah, skis and skins are all you need.
Pretty boring course to be honest. Bunch of easy, flat, groomed downhills = wicked lame. You have to give at least some advantage to people who don't ski on ultra light 3 buckle boots and 160cm carbon skis. Should go to the summit of Ellen and go down under the summit chair at least.

The course was changed last year to include a boot pack section. You know, just like the one at Crested Butte this past weekend:
http://gooneyriders.typepad.com/goon...ed-butte-.html
Well, okay, maybe not *quite* like that...
But the new course last year did go up [Upper] FIS with a boot pack, and then as always down Lower FIS, which although not very steep at all, given that it is at least ungroomed, and that it's now coming after the Upper FIS descent, finally concluding with that maze of Slidebrook work roads, the new course definitely increases the emphasis on skiing skills and strong legs. (Still nothing like the race I put on at Magic when Redline is open, but at least much more challenging on the down than in prior years.)For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. (For other avalanche course providers anywhere, feel free to use any of my "homework" assignments for your own courses too.)

yup, that's where we were. great spot. salsa wasn't working and had wind on it, but cocles(sp?) was firing nicely. my gal, a friend and i had a peak all to ourselves about 100 yards away from the mob scene both days there. heavy wave where on some duck dives my knuckles would scrape the sandy bottom sometimes. had to really pick the right waves to get anything out of them more than just a drop to closeout. stayed right across the street at this foofy spot called cariblue.
loved it there, but for surfing preferred this rivermouth on the pacific side much more. marbella(sp?) was a nice spot as well. kinda close-outish tho as most beach breaks down there were. i missed the beach breaks here in nh bigtime while i was down there

PSA for Powder-Starved NE Skiers / Fans of Long Drives
Massif de Sud will open tomorrow at 8:30am. They have been closed since Sunday. There has been ~20cm of snow this week with NO RAIN CRUST. Conditions last weekend were great, so tomorrow should be too. Not talking Most Epic. But as far as this season goes...
I will be car-camping in the lot. Red Volvo. Pics from last Saturday
